PUBLISHER'S CORNER LISTEN TO THE KIDS’ POWERFUL VOICES This past Saturday, thousands of kids, their parents, siblings, friends and supporters came out in force for the March for Our Lives student-led demonstration in our nation’s capital advocating for tighter gun control. Thousands more supported their March through sibling events that took place throughout the United States and around the world. After the Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting, kids decided to take the lead and fight for their lives, and for new gun control legislation to prevent future mass murders of kids and adults in schools, concerts, churches and other gatherings. Since the thoughts and prayers, and inaction, from so many politicians unwilling to renounce the NRA’s money have done nothing to protect our nation’s children from school mass shootings, kids themselves decided to have a voice and tackle this issue head on. Our country is finally reaching a tipping point that will bring fundamental change, including voting NRA loving politicians out of office. Millions of voters are sick and tired of seeing children mass murdered in school – a sanctuary for learning where kids should not have to practice for mass shootings as part of their kindergarten, grammar school or high school curricula. I grew up in Costa Rica, where guns are nowhere nearly as readily available as in the United States – especially the weapons and ammunition designed for war often used for mass murders in U.S. schools. My nephews and nieces in Costa Rica do not have to practice for mass shootings in school. Why should our children in the United States have to go to school in fear and practice for such a horrible eventuality? Enough is enough! I congratulate the kids who are standing up for their rights and the pursuit of their happiness after living through the nightmare of the Stoneman Douglas High School murders. Good for you that you decided to get organized and put tremendous pressure on politicians who have done nothing to protect you. History shows that when our citizens have gotten organized in the past, they have achieved once unimaginable objectives. Switching gears to this week’s issue, we bring you our second 2018 installment of Wire Magazine’s Hot Models Calendar featuring three hot guys photographed by Photo Studio Miami. Enjoy the months of April, May and June and feel free to hang the calendar on your wall. In Arts Newsie, I sat down with Grammy Award-nominated and multi-platinum R&B/pop recording artist and film/TV actress Deborah Cox to talk about her leading role in the musical The Bodyguard, coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center in April. Deborah will be singing Whitney Houston’s most beloved songs from the movie co-starring Kevin Costner. In Out & About, Brazilian international recording artist Amannda previews her life performance during Score Nightclub’s SWET party this Saturday, when DJs Jalil Z and Yazz Burrell will keep partygoers dancing all night. Finally, in Top Trax, music writer DJ FR8-O welcomes the new spring season with some fresh beats by artists who are just starting to emerge. Any one of these very talented singers could be the keeper of our next favorite song, so stay tuned.

eemed as "'The runaway gold-plated musical hit" by the Daily Mail, The Bodyguard heads to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, April 3-8. Grammy Award-nominated and multi-platinum R&B/pop recording artist and film/TV actress Deborah Cox will be channeling Whitney Houston and performing her biggest hits, including "How Will I Know," "Run to You," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," and "I Will Always Love You." Based on the smash hit film, The Bodyguard is a story of an unlikely romance between best-selling pop diva Rachel Marron and the former secret service agent she hired to protect her from a stalker. It is also "London's best musical," according to Angie Greaves from London based Magic 105.4FM.

Wire Magazine sat down with Deborah Cox to discuss what she most enjoys about playing the role of Rachel, her favorite songs from The Bodyguard, and her ongoing commitment to various social issues in the LGBTQ community. Rafa Carvajal: Tell Wire Magazine readers about the Broadway musical The Bodyguard and why they should go see you play the lead role. Deborah Cox: It's a suspenseful romantic thriller. It has the same storyline as the film, but it has more songs that are sung in their entirety. I feel this is the most challenging, rewarding, fun, complex role of my career so far!

PHOTOS BY JOAN MARCUS. PROVIDED BY BROADWAY ACROSS AMERICA

RC: What do you enjoy the most about playing the role of Rachel Marron on The Bodyguard? DC: I love that she is this complicated woman who is fiercely guarded about her emotions and protective of her son and her heart. I can relate to her on some level because of the celebrity thing. She is really isolated, which is understandable based on her stardom. It's fun to play a character that allows you to show so many different sides of vulnerability. RC: Which are your top three favorite songs to perform on the show, and why do you like them the most? DC: 1) "The Greatest Love" is a nice vulnerable moment where you understand Rachel's inner monologue. You get a peak into her world as a mother and you see her at her most relaxed state. 2) "All the Man I Need" is another favorite of mine to perform because it transforms from this moment where you hear her emotions about Frank, into the studio setting where she lets it all rip! It's a fun transition. 3) "I Will Always Love You" is always a tear jerker and the most anticipated song of the evening. I love that it's a real moment of isolation for Rachel. The challenge is not to cry during that goodbye scene! RC: What drives your ongoing commitment to various social issues in the LGBTQ community? DC: My dear friends. A lot of them have had many issues being gay and lesbian. They are constantly being judged. I try, in my own way, to help erase the stigma that they encounter.

RC: How does being the lead singer on a Broadway musical compare to singing in concert? DC: I love Broadway. I love the live orchestra setting and performing with a cast. I feel really privileged this time to be performing such an incredible score. These songs are iconic. I am also having a blast with Judson, my leading man. He is passionate about the work, professional and quite the perfectionist like me. It's been a long tour and we really are committed actors. The supporting cast is very special too. It's an all star cast of performers that want to hit it out of the park every night, and that makes it fun! #13 2018 WIREMAG.COM 9

What is TRUVADA for PrEP?

Who should not take TRUVADA for PrEP?

TRUVADA for PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a prescription medicine that is used together with safer sex practices to help reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 through sex. This use is only for HIV-negative adults who are at high risk of getting HIV-1. To help determine your risk of getting HIV-1, talk openly with your healthcare provider about your sexual health. Ask your healthcare provider if you have questions about how to prevent getting HIV. Always practice safer sex and use condoms to lower the chance of sexual contact with body fluids. Never reuse or share needles or other items that have body fluids on them.

Do not take TRUVADA for PrEP if you: ® Already have HIV-1 infection or if you do not know your HIV-1 status. If you are HIV-1 positive, you need to take other medicines with TRUVADA to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time. ® Also take certain medicines to treat hepatitis B infection.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about TRUVADA for PrEP? Before taking TRUVADA for PrEP: ® You must be HIV-negative before you start taking TRUVADA for PrEP. You must get tested to make sure that you do not already have HIV-1. Do not take TRUVADA to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 unless you are confirmed to be HIV-negative. ® Many HIV-1 tests can miss HIV-1 infection in a person who has recently become infected. Just taking TRUVADA for PrEP may not keep you from getting HIV-1. ® You must stay HIV-negative to keep taking TRUVADA for PrEP: ® Get tested for HIV-1 at least every 3 months. ® If you think you were exposed to HIV-1, tell your healthcare provider right away. ® To further help reduce your risk of getting HIV-1: ® Know your HIV status and the HIV status of your partners. ® Get tested for other sexually transmitted infections. Other infections make it easier for HIV to infect you. ® Get information and support to help reduce risky sexual behavior, such as having fewer sex partners. ® Do not miss any doses of TRUVADA. Missing doses may increase your risk of getting HIV-1 infection. ® If you do become HIV-1 positive, you need more medicine than TRUVADA alone to treat HIV-1. TRUVADA by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1. If you have HIV-1 and take only TRUVADA, your HIV-1 may become harder to treat over time. TRUVADA can cause serious side effects: ® Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection. TRUVADA is not approved to treat HBV. If you have HBV and stop taking TRUVADA, your HBV may suddenly get worse. Do not stop taking TRUVADA without first talking to your healthcare provider, as they will need to monitor your health.

What are the other possible side effects of TRUVADA for PrEP? Serious side effects of TRUVADA may also include: ® Kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your healthcare provider may do blood tests to check your kidneys before and during treatment with TRUVADA. If you develop kidney problems, your healthcare provider may tell you to stop taking TRUVADA. ® Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic acidosis), which is a serious but rare medical emergency that can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get these symptoms: weakness or being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain, being short of breath or fast breathing, stomach pain with nausea and vomiting, cold or blue hands and feet, feel dizzy or lightheaded, or a fast or abnormal heartbeat. ® Severe liver problems, which in rare cases can lead to death. Your healthcare provider may do tests to check your bones. Common side effects in people taking TRUVADA for PrEP are stomach-area (abdomen) pain, headache, and decreased weight. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that bother you or do not go away.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking TRUVADA for PrEP? ® All your health problems. nternational recording artist Amannda is returning to South Beach three years after her performance at Winter Party Festival – which she described as "out of this world." Amannda will be performing live during Score Nightclub's SWET party this Saturday, March 31 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. DJs Jalil Z and Yazz Burrell will keep partygoers dancing into the early morning hours, as they celebrate promoter Luciano Retondaro's birthday. SPRING D N U O R ' E M

ow that you've finally gotten around to adjusting all of your clocks to "spring forward," it's time to officially welcome the new season with some April fresh beats. Well, March beats really, but let's not get technical. Like spring itself, these artists are just starting to emerge, and any one of them could be the keeper of our next favorite song of the season. Whether you're basking at the beach, dancing in the club, or having a romantic night in, these guys (and girls) will help you shed the worries of winter and put some spring in your step.

Alma - Heavy Rules Mixtape EP She got her first big break as a finalist on Finland's Idols where she came in 5th. Since then, she's performed with some of Europe's hottest pop divas like Tove Lo, Charli XCX and Dua Lipa. Her debut EP oozes with bad girl confidence and unshakable hooks that were born to dominate the dance floor. Keep your ears perked for "Legend," "Dance for Me" or "Chit Chat" to be your new spring anthem. Calum Scott - Only Human He was "dancing on his own" during his iconic audition for Britain's Got Talent, but now he's surrounded by millions of fans. His virgin album (coincidentally on Virgin Records) highlights the heartthrob's knack for bleeding-heart balladry and a firm grip on pop that most artists take years to master. Planning a chill night in or road trip with someone special? Make it a threesome and bring Calum along for the ride.

Hugo Helmig - Promise EP There's something about a man with a guitar that just radiates sexiness. If you're single and hangin' at home on a Saturday night, let Helmig's gravelly voice serenade you and that bottle of wine you've been waiting to pop open for a special occasion. From the haunting acoustic title track to his sultry delivery on "Times of War," this Danish import will have you melting like a mouthful of butter cookies.

Jake Miller - Silver Lining Proving that South Florida has more to offer than just warm sunshine and sparkling beaches, this Weston native's voice is smoother than SPF on a Sunday afternoon. His soulful sound landed him a coveted spot opening for Fifth Harmony in 2016, and he's been unstoppable ever since. His latest collection offers up an uplifting mix of R&B pop that's prime for anything from poolside lounging to pre-club cocktailing.

Samantha Harvey - Please EP Like a real-life Cinderella story, Harvey was cleaning houses when her covers of songs by artists like Adele, Celine Dion and Selena PHOTO CREDIT: Š DEPOSITPHOTOS.COM | PESHKOVA

Gomez went viral on YouTube. She released her first single "Wonderland" in 2016 and by October of last year was snatched up by Virgin Records. With over 1 million YouTube subscribers (and counting), this fairytale is on its way to a very happy ending.
