CALL

TO

WORSHIP

One: Love, without it we are like clanging cymbals, *All: Love!* One: We can speak like prophets, but we still have to *All: Love!* One: We can build great buildings, but we need to *All: Love!* One: We can preach and pray, thank God everyday, but we must *All: Love!* One: Be patient and kind, with no envy in mind, *All: Love!* One: Don’t be rude or resentful; don’t insist on your own way, *All: Love!* One: How can we live without it? *All: Love!* One: How can we sing without it? *All: Love!* One: Who can serve God without it? *All: Love!* One: We just stopped by today so that God could remind us to *All: Love!*

SCRIPTURE 1

CORINTHIANS

13:1-7

If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. ONE: This is the word of God for the people of God ALL: Thanks be to God

Worship Through Song Opening Hymn

Hymn #595 “Be Thou My Vision” Slane Words: Hull/trans. Byrne; Music: Vaughan Williams/harm. Young, Harm. © 1964 The United Methodist Publishing House

1. Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

3 Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, Great God of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

Scripture Response Hymn #526 “The Gift of Love” O Waly Waly Hal Hopson, © 1972 Hope Publishing Company

Though I may speak with bravest fire, and have the gift to all inspire, And have not love, my words are vain as sounding brass, and hopeless gain. Communion Hymn #408 “Come Share the Lord” Divernon Leech, © 1984 Fred Bock Music Company

1. We gather here in Jesus Name. His love is burning in our hearts like living flame; For thru His loving Son the Father makes us one. Come take the bread, come drink the wine come share the Lord. No one is stranger here. Ev’ry one belongs. Finding our forgiveness here we in turn forgive all wrongs.

2. He joins us here. He breaks the bread. The Lord who pours the cup is risen from the dead. The one we love the most, is now our gracious host. Come take the bread, come drink the wine, come share the Lord. We are now a family of which the Lord is head. Though unseen He meets us here in the breaking of the bread.

3. We’ll gather soon where angels sing. We'll see the glory of our Lord and coming King. Now we anticipate the feast for which we wait. Come take the bread, come drink the wine, come share the Lord. (Come take the bread, come drink the wine, come share the Lord.)

A GREEN CHALICE MOMENT

1. Psalms 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

As a Green Chalice congregation, we are trying to live out our faith by caring for God’s creation. Please consider engaging in Creation Care this coming week. Some possible actions are: Continuing to recycle; make a donation to a disaster recovery fund, buy produce from local farmers/farmer’s market, wait until the laundry basket is full to wash, and donate used books to a local lending library (https://readenc.org/communitylending-library-map)

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Each Tuesday at 6:45, we'll meet in the parlor to talk about the sermon. Please join me!

SACRED GROUNDS join us between 10am and 10:30am each Sunday for coffee and fellowship

Your generosity helps us to continue our outreach into the community. Your support allows us to help people in need of money for food, rent, and utilities. It also allows us to provide space for the Girl Scouts and other community groups. It is only through your donations that we can continue the work begun by Jesus. Thank You.

GIVING THANKS

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. . Setting a place at the table for persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

We are committed to being a ProReconciling/Anti-Racist Ministry. We seek to deepen our understanding of systemic racism, as Christ compels us to advocate for justice, fairness and equality within our world.
