CALL TO WORSHIP One :

Can one be homesick for something

you’ve never known? ALL: We are homesick for a just world, for peace like rivers, for the end of suffering. One: Yes, we are homesick— ALL:

for joy that is contagious, for nations

that feel like neighbors, and for hospitals that run empty. One:

We are homesick for the world God

promises. ALL:We are homesick, but we are on our way. One: God is here. God is still creating. ALL: Let us worship Holy God.

GIVING THANKS Your generosity helps us to continue our outreach into the community. Your support allows us to help people in need of money for food, rent, and utilities. It also allows us to provide space for the Girl Scouts and other community groups. It is only through your donations that we can continue the work begun by Jesus. Thank You.

SCRIPTURE

LUKE 21:25-36 The Coming of the Son of Man “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in a cloud’ with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” The Lesson of the Fig Tree Then he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Exhortation to Watch “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day does not catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Worship Through Song Opening Hymn

"God's World Is Changing" (BUNESSAN: Tune of "Morning Has Broken") Text by Carolyn Gillette/© 2015 by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. Bunessan: Hymn #53 Chalice Hymnal: arr. c. 1987 CRC Publications

1. God's world is changing; where is it going? Nations are raging; look at their fear! Many are anxious, filled with foreboding; We wait in faith, for God's reign is near.

2. "Look at the fig tree!" See what it's doing. Look at the signs in heaven above. God is at work here, building, renewing; Some are afraid, but we know God's love.

3. Lord, may we use each day that we're given — Helping the hungry, homeless and poor. Then we'll be ready for what you're bringing When Christ will come and reign evermore.

L:ighting the Candle Of Hope

"The Candle of Hope" (LYONS: tune of "O Worship the King") Text by Carolyn Gillette/© 2015 by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette.

The candle of hope we light in this hour proclaims that the Lord is coming in power. We wait for a future, now hidden from view, when Christ in his glory will make all things new

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. . Setting a place at the table for persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

We are committed to being a ProReconciling/Anti-Racist Ministry. We seek to deepen our understanding of systemic racism, as Christ compels us to advocate for justice, fairness and equality within our world.
