CALL TO WORSHIP

One: Let us lift our voices to God, our companion in times of trouble. Where hearts are broken with grief, ALL: draw close, O God! One: When it feels too risky to hope, ALL: remind us of your faithfulness, O God! One: Where fear limits our imagination, ALL: send us prophets who cast visions of new life, O God! One: Come, Holy Spirit, hear our heart’s desires and guide us in your Wisdom. GIVING THANKS

Your generosity helps us to continue our outreach into the community. Your support allows us to help people in need of money for food, rent, and utilities. It also allows us to provide space for the Girl Scouts and other community groups. It is only through your donations that we can continue the work begun by Jesus. Thank You.

SCRIPTURE Psalm 16

Song of Trust and Security in God

A MIKTAM OF DAVID.

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”

As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble, in whom is all my delight.

Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names upon my lips.

The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage.

I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure. For you do not give me up to Sheol, or let your faithful one see the Pit.

You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

What's a Mikktam?

One possibility is that this word introduces the theme of the psalm. In this case, the theme is protection or covering. Another possibility is that this word is about engraving the letters on a stone. Thousands of years after David wrote this word, we are left guessing.

Worship Through Song Opening Hymn Hymn #560 "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms" Showalter

1 What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain Leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning on the everlasting arms.

2 O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, leaning on the everlasting arms; O how bright the path grows from day to day, leaning on the everlasting arms. (Refrain)

3 What have I to dread, what have I to fear, leaning on the everlasting arms?

I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, leaning on the everlasting arms. (Refrain)

Scripture Response Hymn #77 "On Eagle's Wings" Joncas c. 1979 OCP/OCP Octavo, Bonus Music #333/Onelicense.net Song #80468

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life, Say to the Lord: "My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!" And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand."

Communion Hymn Hymn #557 "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". Closer

Walk/Anonymous

1 I am weak, but thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong; I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk, let me walk close to thee.

Refrain Just a closer walk with thee, grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to thee: let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

3 When my feeble life is o’er, time for me will be no more; Guide me gently, safely o’er to thy kingdom shore, to thy shore. (Refrain)

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. . Setting a place at the table for persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

We are committed to being a ProReconciling/Anti-Racist Ministry. We seek to deepen our understanding of systemic racism, as Christ compels us to advocate for justice, fairness and equality within our world.
