CALL

TO

WORSHIP

ONE: People of God, there is a feast set before us. ALL: An abundance of ordinary provisions is always in reach. ONE: Do we not have a fountain of compassion from which to draw? ALL: With God as our source, we are never in lack. ONE: Are we not rich in courage? Must we carefully ration out the amount of love we give and receive? ALL: When we dwell together in God’s presence, there is more than enough. ONE: Who is able to keep us from Wisdom? Who has the power to set limits upon our joy? ALL: Not even our enemies can hinder access to God. ONE: Let us rejoice! For we will not be left without. ALL: Thanks be to God, our Holy Provider.

OPENING

PRAYER

Holy Comforter, Divine Guide, even as Love leads us towards the places we fear the most, we hope to trust in you. When the shadow of the cross looms, keep us from retreating into privilege or isolation. Make us brave in our care for each other, leaving no one to go alone. Amen. Amen.

SCRIPTURE PSALM

23

The Divine Shepherd The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long. ONE: This is the word of God for the people of God ALL: Thanks be to God

SCRIPTURE PSALM

139:7-12

Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.

Worship Through Song Opening Hymn

Hymn #566 “Be Still, My Soul”

Finlandia Arr. c. 1933, 1961 Presbyterian Board of Christian Education

Be still, my soul, for God is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief or pain. Trust in your God, your savior and your guide, who through all changes faithful will remain. Be still my soul, your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a peaceful end.

3. Be still my soul, the hour is hastening on when we shall dwell with God forever more, When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Offertory “Dove of Peace” (I Come With Joy) arr. Callahan, c. 2008 Birmanwood Pub./Morning Star

Scripture Response Hymn 558: “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” Thrupp/Bradbury 1. Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need thy tender care; In thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use thy folds prepare. Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast bought us, thine we are; Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, thou hast bought us, thine we are.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Each Tuesday at 6:45, we'll meet in the parlor to talk about the sermon. Please join me! Bumper Stickers are here

This four-week series uncovers some of the heaviest baggage we carry and invites us to exchange it for the peace Jesus offers. We learn that our luggage is often filled with emotions we might be unaware we feel, but God invites us to release the burdens and trust them to restore our brokenness and help us experience the freedom they offer. Be sure to invite at least one friend to our service.

SACRED GROUNDS join us between 10am and 10:30am each Sunday for coffee and fellowship

Your generosity helps us to continue our outreach into the community. Your support allows us to help people in need of money for food, rent, and utilities. It also allows us to provide space for the Girl Scouts and other community groups. It is only through your donations that we can continue the work begun by Jesus. Thank You.

GIVING THANKS

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. . Setting a place at the table for persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations.

We are committed to being a ProReconciling/Anti-Racist Ministry. We seek to deepen our understanding of systemic racism, as Christ compels us to advocate for justice, fairness and equality within our world.
