Hear the story of the life and times of the adventurous and daring “Unsinkable Molly Brown.” The “unsinkable” part is true, for after the sinking of The Titanic in April 1912, Margaret Brown (her real name) was interviewed and asked how she survived the sinking on the ship she responded, “Typical Brown luck. We’re unsinkable.” Discover her fighting spirit in helping other survivors who lost everything when the Titanic sunk. Historical photographs and newspapers will be shared. REGISTER

Author-historians and lecturers, Gerry and Janet Souter tell the story of the Illinois railroads— from leaky, steam-driven teakettles to high speed signature passenger trains hurtling from Chicago to Springfield. The evening's cocktails will complement the themes of Manhattan Beach, Jennifer Egan’s World War II-era historical novel centered around the only female diver at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It will cover the science behind cheesemaking, along with ingredients, equipment and techniques for making soft, hard, Italian and other kinds of cheeses.
