Tell us a bit about Stugan by Garvstrom. Jake and I design and make sustainable wooden pieces that belongs in your home. Tell us about yourself and your background? We both grew up near the nature with families interested in craftsmanship and design, but we grew up on two different sides of the world. In 2010 Beatrice in her late teens left Sweden to backpack in Australia, after a few month traveling around I ended up in a little country town six hours west from Brisbane meeting Jake. He was rebuilding a small school with a couple of other carpenters. We ended up spending Christmas together and Jake showed me amazing places you only would know about if you were born and bred in Queensland. From there we bought a renovation project, our puppy dogs and got married. The spark of creating, which has always been there, but has evolved when we came together. I started to study interior design and Jake studied wilderness reserves and wildlife and the nature of sustainable design and creation has always influenced our direction and driven us to become Stugan By Garvstrom. What sparked you to create your business? The thrive to make and create objects have always been there and to be able to create a lifestyle with our ideas and abilities is an ongoing goal we are working toward. Stugan by Garvstrom simply started with a thought of making a keyring, with all natural material and with a shape that allows you to hang it up. We started to play around - I sketched, while Jake was working in the shed trying to perfect

what was on the drawings. We became the designer and the refiner. What processes are involved in creating your pieces? It all starts with ideas on paper, which is often me doodling and sketching. Jake is the refiner and works out how we will be able to make it. We refine the idea and Jake goes out to the workshop and make a prototype, there on we both tweak it till it comes perfect in our mind. The whole process can vary in time with

some of the items we worked on taking some months. It sounds easy to catogorise what we do in the business but to be honest we are a little bit of everything. I can be in the workshop for days and turn out products while Jake is working on new designs. We love to be able to do everything and we more than often sing “Anything you can do I can do better, this encourages us and drives us to do better with a smile on our face. continued on next page >
