Foundation Welcome We are excited and honored to welcome you to Winesong 2018. If you are new to Winesong, we are pleased you chose to join us for this important fundraising event. For our returning friends, we are grateful you are joining us again and for your continued support. Winesong is a special day where fun and philanthropy come together. Winesong is the largest fundraising event in the county and the largest single source of funds for donations to our local hospital. Produced annually by the Hospital Foundation for the benefit of Mendocino Coast District Hospital, proceeds are used for capital improvements and equipment purchases. Our Foundation Board and staff could not produce this event without the aid of a loyal corps of volunteers, most of whom you will see in the Gardens today. These volunteers, many of them Hospital employees and physicians, are part of the strong commitment this community has to our Hospital. Your generosity over the past 34 years has provided lifesaving and life enhancing equipment that is absolutely essential to the health of this community and its many visitors. Thanks to your support we have cutting edge diagnostic imaging capability in our Hospital and stellar laboratory, pharmacy, cardiology, and oncology services, among others. Along with our entire community, we thank you for your support and invite you to enjoy the beautiful Mendocino Coast on this day of good food, outstanding wines and lasting friendships. We sincerely hope you enjoy the day! Sincerely, The Board & Staff of the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation

Hospital Welcome On behalf of the Mendocino Coast District Hospital Board of Directors, Employees, Medical Staff Providers, and Volunteers, we are honored to have you as our guests! We welcome back our long-time supporters, and greet those of you visiting for the first time. While you enjoy this special day, please know that the generous support you are providing ensures that our local hospital and medical services will continue to be available to everyone who lives, works, or vacations on the Mendocino Coast. These medical services are vital to our community. Winesong proceeds fund equipment that is absolutely essential to the health and well-being of this community. Your support for Fund-A-Need last year purchased new beds for all inpatient and ICU rooms, as well as in our Birthing Unit. Right now patients are resting and healing in those beds. In the past you provided 100% of the equipment costs to replace our aged Telemetry/Monitoring system. That system is now in place and being used every day to improve the health of our patients. We are pleased to share positive news and some recent accomplishments: • Our Lab now uses BioFire technology to conduct infectious disease diagnosis in about an hour, a type of test that recently took days or even weeks. This produces potential life-saving results faster, leading to improved patient care. BioFire also maximizes productivity and reduces costs. • North Coast Family Health Center won The Gold Award for their PRIME Project “Cancer Screening and Follow Up.” Their breast cancer screening rate for community members increased 44%; cervical cancer screening rates improved by 67%; and colorectal cancer screening rates were up by 14%. • Our OB Department was named to the C-section Honor roll by the California Health and Human Services Agency for keeping our Cesarean birth rate for first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies below 23.9%.

• Process improvements and focus have elevated our Medicare and Medicaid mandated HCAHPS Patient Experience Scores to around 73%, a drastic increase from roughly 50% just a short time ago. We hope you enjoy the day’s activities knowing your generosity truly makes an enormous difference and is valued by those of us in the community. Thank you for being with us today, Bob Edwards, Chief Executive Officer

Auctioneer: DawnMarie Kotsonis DawnMarie Kotsonis ignites the auction stage with her passion and heartfelt commitment to the organizations she serves. As the Development Officer of a large Southern California hospital, she experienced first-hand the challenges of fundraising and, unknowingly, began the building blocks of her true calling. Her introduction to the world of charity auctions began in the 1980’s while running a successful commercial auction firm. She was asked to help raise funds on behalf of cystic fibrosis research and it was a very personal request. The disease claimed the lives of both her nephew and her best friend. It did not take long for her to realize that working on behalf of nonprofits was far more fulfilling than any commercial auction career would ever be. She also recognized that her background in Development gave her unique experience and insight into the world of fundraising. So she abandoned the commercial side and never looked back. Since then, DawnMarie has presided over countless record-breaking charity auctions nationwide including a number on the Wine Spectator’s Top 10. The dollars she has raised are in the tens of millions and the number grows every week. DawnMarie is based in Los Angeles and welcomes all inquiries. She is at www.gavelgirl.com.

2018 Honored Vintner: Dan Duckhorn Over the course of four decades, Dan Duckhorn has been a leader in the Napa Valley wine community. A native of northern California, Dan earned his masters in business administration in 1962 from the University of California at Berkeley. Over the next decade, Dan held managerial positions with Matson Navigation Company,Adpac Computing Languages Company and Crocker Associates before becoming president of Vineyard Consulting Corporation (VCC) in 1971. As a major vineyard technical services company, VCC was deeply involved in viticulture consulting, vineyard management and grapevine propagation. It was here that Dan learned about winegrowing from the soil up and honed his abilities for assessing vineyard sites and pairing varietals with their most suitable terroir. While at VCC, Dan began to see that a dramatic change was coming to the North Coast, with a gradual shift away from common varietals toward higher quality varietal wines, led by different clones and rootstocks planted in more favorable locals and on more advanced trellis systems. In 1976, Dan and his then wife, Margaret, co-founded Duckhorn Vineyards with a small group of friends. Influenced by what he had learned on a journey to France, Dan decided that the Napa Valley was ideal for producing wines of uncommon depth, complexity, and character. In the beginning, he made the pioneering decision to focus his passion and resources on the production of a world-class Napa Valley Merlot. Though many other wineries were using Merlot as a blending grape, Dan encouraged his staff to develop a premium stand-alone Napa Valley Merlot. xiv

The first Duckhorn Vineyards harvest in 1978 consisted of 1,600 cases in two bottlings—800 Three Palms Vineyard Merlot and 800 Cabernet Sauvignon. Proving Dan’s belief that great wines begin in the vineyard, 1978 turned out to be an excellent first vintage partly due to a wonderful growing season. “It was a great year,” says Dan. “We could have made wine out of walnuts.” If a certain degree of luck helped out that first year, under Dan’s leadership the winery has spent over 35 years proving that Duckhorn’s commitment to quality and excellence is real. In 1988, Dan began leading Duckhorn through a period of careful growth. With his meticulous selection of vineyard properties, Dan has worked to create an estate program that guarantees Duckhorn a continuous supply of the finest fruit. In addition, Dan has diversified Duckhorn Vineyards’ parent company, Duckhorn Wine Company, to include Paraduxx, Goldeneye, Migration and an expanded Decoy line. Dubbed “Mr. Merlot” by Frank Prial of the New York Times, Dan is a highly respected leader in the wine industry. Active in the wine community, Dan has served on the board of directors of the Wine Institute, the American Vintners Association and Family Winemakers of California. He was president of the Napa Valley Vintners Association and the Wine Service Co-op and is a past chair of the Napa Valley Wine Auction. Dan’s vision and guidance were instrumental in founding the Premiere Napa Valley Trade Barrel Auction. In 2005, Johnson & Wales University awarded Dan the Degree of Doctor of Oenology Honoris Causa and UC Davis has recognized he and Margaret as Wine Industry Pioneers.

2018 Artist of the Year: Tom Rodrigues Tom Rodrigues has been making art full time for over 50 years. He began as an apprentice at a stained glass studio in his hometown of Los Gatos, California. In 1968, straight out of high school, he started his first business, Rodrigues Studio, making commissioned glass pieces from lampshades to full wall panels. He moved to Marin County in 1973, opening his own studio and continuing to grow his business, collaborating with architects and builders during the housing boom. In 1980, he was recruited as the designer and production manager for all stained glass work for Skywalker Ranch, George Lucas’s film complex. Alongside being a widely sought glass artisan, Tom also began designing commercial art and graphic design for wineries in Napa Valley. His signature art-nouveau style with gold inlays became the iconic look for the Far Niente family of wineries, including Nickel and Nickel, Dolce, EnRoute, and Bella Union. In the 80’s, he branched out into fine art. Though self-taught, his acrylic and oil paintings have been featured in galleries around the country, from New York to Santa Fe, Sedona, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. His series are varied in subject, but all speak to Tom’s passions and interests. An avid fisher, man, his first series of fine art highlight vibrant still lifes of trout. Intricate and up close paintings of the river rocks and stones were the feature of his next series, Sticks and Stones. Sweeping landscapes of Napa Valley vineyards, as well as up close portraits of field workers picking grapes highlight his passion for the winemaking process in his Vineyard series. Perhaps his most famous painting series shows another love for America’s greatest game—baseball. A trunk full of baseball memorabilia from Hall of Famer Smokey Joe Wood’s grandson inspired a series of 30 paintings of the game’s best players. This collection was first exhibited in a first-ofits-kind performance and conceptual art show on the field of Candlestick xii

Park in 1993, “Legends at the Stick”. This series was also featured in Sports Illustrated, and one of his paintings was permanently installed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York in 1996. In 2001,Tom expanded his craftsmanship to winemaking when he purchased a ranch in the Anderson Valley. Maple Creek Winery/Artevino Wines now produces award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Merlot and Bordeaux blends. Tom currently lives on the winery, and in addition to wine making, he still pursues his various crafts; painting, designing labels, and making glass art on a commission basis.

“Being named Winesong’s Artist of the Year was such an honor and an amazing way to celebrate fifty years of being in the business. I decided to make my commission piece for Winesong in stained glass, because for me that’s where it all started.”

About Sales Tax‌ As the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation is obligated to pay sales tax on taxable items, it will collect the tax reimbursement from the purchaser at the time of sale. Otherwise, the Foundation would incur an additional expense that would result in a decrease in the net proceeds from the charity auction. Since its mission and purpose is to provide financial support to the Mendocino Coast District Hospital, every opportunity to reduce expenses and increase the amount of money available for donations is implemented. Although many nonprofit organizations are exempt from federal and state income tax, there is no similar broad exemption from California sales tax. Generally, a nonprofit’s sales are taxable and are treated just like other California sellers for sales tax purposes. There are special exemptions available to certain nonprofit organizations in California; however, the Foundation does not qualify for any such exemption and must pay sales tax on its taxable sales. Thank you for your understanding and support.

This Lot Includes: 1981 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild GrandCru, Pauillac 1982 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild GrandCru, Pauillac 1983 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1985 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1986 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1988 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1989 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1990 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1995 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 1996 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2000 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2003 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2005 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2009 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2010 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac 2014 Château Duhart-Milon-Rothschild Grand Cru, Pauillac

Château Duhart-Milon’s grand vin is often described as a model of the Pauillac appellation. The broker Guillaume Lawton noted as early as 1815 that “it is very robust, with a fine colour, and quite pronounced sappiness.” In 1962, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired the property from the Castéja family. “It would have been nonsense not to acquire such a great neighbouring vineyard,” remarked Baron Eric de Rothschild. Since the acquisition by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the vineyards have been totally overhauled and the chais renovated.

It has been a remarkable 40 year effort to reclaim the Médoc 4th growth wine ranking for Château Duhart-Milon. All wines offered today by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) are made with high standards, delivering wines of elegance and finesse in the tradition of the great Bordeaux house, Château Lafite-Rothschild. This Chateau’s reputation has soared recently with the 2009 (97 points) and 2010 (96 points) vintages. In a retrospective tasting, Robert Parker singled out both the 1982 and the 1990 Duhart-Milon, describing the latter this way: “The 1990 has turned out better than I expected. It offers a classic Lafite perfume of graphite/lead pencil shavings interwoven with red and black currants, fresh porcini mushrooms, smoke, and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, soft, and elegant, it is not as concentrated as the 1982, but is a luscious, round Pauillac.” Decanter Magazine’s Steven Spurrier loves the 2014: “Striking nose of black fruits, riper than usual with 45% Merlot, but structure is there. A firm yet elegant Pauillac that has come to the fore with great clarity and depth.” This lot includes the best vintages over four decades.

Tuscany Dreams A Donation From: Villa Bernardi, Monte Bernardi Vineyards

This Lot Includes: 7-Night Stay at Villa Bernardi for six (6) guests Two (2) Authentic Homemade Italian Dinners for six (6) guests Half-Day Guided Tour of Siena Guided Tour of Volterra A Selection of Estate Wines from Monte Bernardi

The Schmelzer Family welcomes you to their gorgeous hilltop estate - Villa Bernardi – a traditional rustic Tuscan Farmhouse. Don’t let the ‘rustic’ description fool you though, as the villa and grounds are stunning…and quite spacious with five nicely appointed bedrooms, a large gourmet kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining options, and a grand main room. Other amenities at your disposal are their gorgeous swimming pool, manicured gardens, and a personal gym! Villa Bernardi is a fourlevel, 4,400 sq ft farmhouse built in the traditional Tuscan style of stone walls, wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors, and large windows for views as far as the eye can see! The original farm dates back to 1085 (that’s the Middle Ages!) During your stay, a guide will take you on two tours of nearby towns – Siena and Volterra. Siena is likely Italy’s loveliest medieval city. As with many European cities and towns, Siena’s heart is its central piazza known as Il Campo. You may know Il Campo for the famous Palio run here, a horse race run around the piazza two times

every summer. Volterra is a town of great architectural interest located 1,770 feet above sea level, between the rivers Bra and Cecina in Tuscany. The main features are two fine castles and numerous remains from the ancient Etruscan civilization. The ambience of Volterra is extremely attractive, easily rivaling that of the more famous Tuscan destination of San Gimignano. Of course, you may choose to explore a few of the picturesque villages on your own too – something we recommend for a truly enchanting experience. While there are restaurants, vineyards, and wine bars nearby, no trip to Villa Bernardi would be complete without authentic home cooking – and no one cooks like an Italian mamma! You and your guests will enjoy two delicious homemade dinners at the Villa, lovingly prepared by one of the mammas. Just leave room for dessert…if you can! The winning bidder of this lot will also take home a selection of Monte Bernardi wines, available for pick up at Villa Bernardi! Ciao Italy! Insider Information: Travel dates for Villa Bernardi are from May – August 2019 only Make reservations at earliest convenience to ensure securing preferred dates. Minimum 60-day advance notification prior to preferred dates. Dates subject to availability and must be mutually agreeable.

25 Years of Pride A Donation From: Pride Mountain Vineyards

This Lot Includes: 2015 Pride Mountain Merlot, 1.5L signed with box 2015 Pride Mountain Cabernet Franc, 1.5L signed with box 2015 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, 5L signed with box Pride Mountain Vineyards Cave Tour and Tasting for six (6) guests Pride Mountain Vineyards sits atop the Mayacamus Mountains overlooking Napa Valley, and is situated on historic Summit Ranch where wine grapes have been grown since 1869. Legend and lore surround Pride, including the story behind their huge stone wall that was originally part of a larger structure built in 1890, a mysterious fire, and all that remains. Continuing the legend and lore of incredible winemaking is the Pride Family – originally founded by Carolyn and Jim Pride, today siblings Steve Pride and Suzanne Pride Bryan co-own and actively manage the vineyard with Stuart Bryan in the role of Vintner Ambassador. This year’s offering celebrates 25 years of Pride Mountain, which includes the most recent releases of Pride’s Merlot and Cabernet Franc – both magnums, and an Imperial of their Cabernet Sauvignon, each promising a long cellar-life. Per California Grapevine: Volume 43, October 2017, the 2015 is “medium-dark ruby; herbal, spicy, strawberry and blackberry fruit aroma with hints of sage, lavender, green olive and graphite; full body; rich, ripe, firmly structured, dark berry fruit

flavors with good depth and a hint of milk chocolate; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. While approachable now, this youthful wine deserves a good three to five more years of bottle aging to round out. Very highly recommended.” Rating: 91 Antonio Galloni of Vinous, wrote in March 2018, “the 2015 Cabernet Franc is terrific. Deep, pliant and super-inviting. The flavors are brisk, precise and nuanced in this super-expressive, layered wine. Finesse and silkiness rather than power are the signatures. Bright red-toned fruit and floral notes give the Franc notable energy. What a gorgeous wine this is.” Rating: 93 And of the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, California Grapevine: Volume 44, July 2018 described it as “medium-dark ruby; attractive, deep, ripe, cedary, dark cherry, cassis, and blackberry fruit aroma with herbal notes, and hints of black tea and dark chocolate; full body; rich, ripe, textured, cedary, red and dark fruit flavors with good depth and concentration, and a note of charred oak; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Approachable now, though currently showing some roughness on the finish and deserving several more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.” Rating: 90

A Duo of Oenological Delight A Donation From: Patricia & Joseph Harbison and Theresa & Tom Wajnert

This Lot Includes: 2002 Harbison Etched Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, 3L Place on Harbison Estates Closed Direct Mailing List 2005 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Domaine Henrietas Jadot, 3L Another stellar combo from the Harbisons and Wajnerts! Our gracious donors consider this the “ultimate Oakville Cabernet and White Burgundy Oenological Delight!” Pat and Joe, supporters of Winesong since its inception in 1984, and Chairs of the 30th Anniversary Extravaganza in 2014, are donating their impossible to come by large format of 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon. With a waiting list of more than 1,000 people, Harbison Estates Cabernets appeal to the most sophisticated oenophiles who wait expectantly each year for a new release. This is an incredible opportunity to add this highly coveted wine to your own cellar. And it’s definitely not a bottle that can be bought in any retail wine shop. Rated 98 by the Wine Spectator, the 2002 JP Harbison Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley has a “smooth, fine balance with ripe current, blackberry, mocha and pretty floral scents. It is chock full of violets and floral elements. The wine is all about subtlety, finesse and grace with a round, sensual mouth feel, excellent concentration and length. This was an incredible showing for Harbison Wines.” --J.L. Only 125 cases made.

The small blocks of cabernet grown at Harbison Vineyards (neighbors of Screaming Eagle, Phelps Backus and Dalla Valle) are so superb that Wine Spectator deemed the grapes “the stuff with which cult wines are made”. Theresa and Tom’s donation is courtesy of their generosity to the Rusty Staub (26 years) New York Wine Auction and Dinner to benefit the New York Food Pantries. The Wajnerts, one of the original 30 (couples) founders of the Naples Winter Wine and Food Festival, and now extremely good friends of Winesong and the Mendocino Coast Hospital, are donating a one-of-a-kind format of an incredible ChevalierMontrachet. The vineyard of Chevalier-Montrachet is situated immediately above the portion of Le Montrachet in Puligny, and directly borders Chassagne. It covers 18 acres producing an extremely limited yield of 23,000 bottles of wine in an average year, or slightly over half the legal yield per hectare. Within this grand cru climat is the “Les Demoiselles” vineyard, a 2.56 acre parcel which was purchased in 1794 by the first members of Louis Henry Denis Jadot’s family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium. The vineyard is currently owned by a joint purchase of Louis Jadot and Louis LaTour; and the two domains remain owners of Les Demoiseures. Tasting Note: A reserved yet elegant white flower and intensely mineral nose that merges seamlessly into fine, precise and vividly stony flavors that culminate in a clean, crisp and bone dry finish. This has all the superb intensity of a young Demoiselles and is clearly built to age, and as such, should provide 8 – 10 years of upscale development.

This incredible 19 year ver tical collection captures the intimate connection between the people and the land that defines great French Burgundy. In 1830 the Gros family set up in Vosne-Romanée, a legendary commune today rich in grand cru climats and a village replete with growers of the highest quality. One of the oldest premier cru vineyards in this region, Clos des Réas, covers less than 2 hectares and happens to be in the best part of Richebourg. Clos des Réas, situated just below the Domaine de la Romanee Conti, is a rare Monopole, owned exclusively by

the Gros family. All these vintages earned high ratings. The 2009 marked the 150th anniversary of Clos des Réas. Today, Michel Gros, sixth generation of this dynasty of winemakers, continues the family tradition and develops the work under taken by his ancestors at Clos des Réas. For several vintages, he and his mother ran the domaine after Jean Gros passed away. Both his brother and sister own other famous domaines in Burgundy. Passionate but also very rigorous, Michel Gros assumed full command in 1996, and he brings constant care to the development of his wines, by mastering all the stages of production, from vineyard work to bottling. Modest and unassuming, he, like his father and earlier generations before him, expresses himself through his wines: generous, fine, elegant. Amazing 19 bottle ver tical 1985-2015: The best wines over 30 years of Vosne-Romanée Clos des Réas

It’s the perfect place to acclimate and adjust to being in the Southern Hemisphere. A couple of dinners have already been planned for you at two phenomenal restaurants: The Sugar Club by Peter Gordon, is located on the 53rd floor of Sky Tower. It may be difficult to tear yourself away from Auckland, but we promise there are more incredible experiences to be had! Flying to the South Island, you’ll find yourself in the Marlborough province of New Zealand – an award winning wine region! Villa Maria has a Cellar Door in Marlborough as well as quaint apartments well suited to your stay in the area. Now…where to start with the wineries… Brancott Estate Heritage Centre offers an incredible experience for our winning bidders – a private tasting and lunch hosted by either the Chief Winemaker of Brancott Estate and/or the Regional Winemaker. What you need to know about this special place is that the Heritage Centre overlooks the Brancott Estate…the site of the very first Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir plantings in Marlborough in 1975. This heritage is why Brancott is considered the “spriritual home” of Sauvignon Blanc. Depending upon when you visit the fine folks at Brancott, you may be able to experience the New Zealand Native Falcon Encounter. Yes – we said ‘Falcon Encounter’… Another incredible wine and food experience is with Allan Scott Winery and his Twelve Trees Restaurant. Now this is a winery, but the name Greywacke comes from the river stones found in the soils of the vineyard. Winemaker and owner Kevin Judd specializes in two varietals – Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, although Greywacke’s portfolio also includes Chardonnay and aromatic varietals. In addition to being wowed by his wines, you will be equally enamoured with Kevin’s photography, as he captures the essence of Greywacke through the lens. Yes…it’s time to move your wine exploration further south to Central Otago…known for big mountains, pristine lakes, and dramatic skies…and wine. Sophisticated, inventively presented dishes are designed using classic techniques with a creative twist to bring out the best of the locally sourced produce. “Amisfield’s genius is in making you feel that there’s no better place in the world to be at that moment,” enthuses Cuisine Magazine. The rigid stone building with the copper rooftop belies the warmth and hospitality within, nor does it hint

of the amazing cuisine from Executive Chef Vaughan Mabee, who’s culinary genius was honed at a three-star Michelin restaurant in San Sebastian, Spain. Your time in Central Otago also winds its way to an exclusive tour and tasting at Felton Road. Blair Walter is the winemaker for Felton Road, and if the wines are anything like the man – you are in for a fabulous ride! Recently featured in the July issue of Wine Spectator, Felton Road scores high marks for their Pinot Noir. Their 2017 Central Otago, Bannockburn Pinot Noir was heralded as a “HOT WINE” only given to “the most exciting discoveries from the editor’s most recent ratings. They’re high scoring wines from around the world that may be difficult to find, but are worth seeking out.” Seek…and you shall find as Felton Road is on your list of wineries to visit; and by the by, that 2017 scored a 97. Rippon is another highly lauded winery you’ll be visiting for a private tour and tasting in Central Otago. Situated in one of the most stunning settings, you may have a difficult time decided which is more incredible – the scenery or the wine. Rippon consistently garners rating in the 92 – 96 point range. Generous donor, Susan Cimmiyotti, is a longtime Winesong friend, and owner of Panache Gallery in Mendocino. Panache has been recognized as a Top Retailer by Contemporary Jewelry Design Group, and it’s easy to see why with this gorgeous Gold South Sea Pearl Necklace dotted with diamonds. This 18 carat gold, 9 millimeter pearl necklace creates a dramatic look for the most decadent of parties or intimate gatherings with a pearl sitting (literally) on wings of gold…and diamonds! This piece is a stunning showstopper that will make you feel like a Queen – no matter the occasion.

Adding to this lot is a fabulous 12-bottle flight of Goldeneye Pinot Noir. In 1996, building on the tradition of excellence established at Duckhorn Vineyards in Napa, the Duckhorn family embraced their growing love of Pinot Noir and came to Anderson Valley to found Goldeneye. Goldeneye (named for a yellow-eyed waterfowl that occasionally calls Anderson Valley home since it lies on the bird’s migratory path) began making premium quality, cool-climate Pinot Noir from its estate winery in the Anderson Valley in 1997. Dan Duckhorn explains: “Blending grapes from four estate vineyards, we are dedicated to crafting wines of refinement and elegance from a rich palette of terroir-inspired fruit.” “Reflecting the Anderson Valley’s unique sites and soils, these grapes create sublime and sophisticated Pinot Noir. To further enhance natural depth and complexity, winemaker Michael Fay selects only a small percentage of the finest fruit for each vintage before applying small-lot, artisanal winemaking techniques.” In recognition of the winery’s achievements, our good friend and notable collector, Clayt Daley, began collecting Goldeneye Pinot Noir in 2004. In awarding the 2014 93 points, the Wine Enthusiast captured the typical, lovely attributes that define Goldeneye Pinot: “Beautifully integrated oak spice and a deep well of fruit flavors combine in this richly complex and layered wine. It’s medium to full in body, supple, and mouth-filling in texture, and brings a great array of classic aromas to the table. Dark cherry, forest floor, cedar and a hint of wood smoke meld into a feast of flavor.”

This Lot Includes: 2013 Bon Pari - Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (6) 2014 Bon Pari - Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (6) 2015 Bon Pari - Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (6) 2015 Bon Pari - Russian River Pinot Noir (6)

Bon Pari...French for “Good Bet”...the perfect name for this Burgundian style Pinot Noir. For the first three vintages, the fruit was sourced from select vineyards of Dijon clones in the cool-climate section of the Sonoma Coast appellation near Annapolis. Clayt provides the background: “The winemaker is Fred Scherrer. Fred was educated at UC Davis and has been making wine for over 30 years ... I was thrilled that Fred agreed to make a relatively small volume of wine for me. He used 40% new French oak barrels and 60% once used ... you can “over oak” Pinot Noir very easily if you’re not careful. The wine spent 22 months in barrel before bottling. Fred’s winemaking philosophy is one of minimum intervention … if you’ve got great fruit, the wine doesn’t need to be “tampered with”. Clayt adds, “The 2014 Bon Pari Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was produced from the same fruit source as the 2013. These vineyards produced another exceptional crop in 2014. And, we cropped

the vineyard in a similar manner with yields that were under 2 tons per acre. The wine has a lot of similarities to the 2013 ... good fruit, structure and a long finish. The 2014 is a bit less tannic than 2013, and therefore, should drink well on release, as we have done three years of cellaring for you.” As for the future, the 2015, now ready for release, is offered exclusively to members on the mailing list. The estate vineyard began to produce in 2017 and a tiny amount of Bon Pari Estate Chardonnay joined the team. The estate vineyard is a former thoroughbred racing horse ranch which explains the ticket shape of the label. The ranch itself is now known as the “Winners Circle.” Want to join the Winners Circle? Not to worry. This lot includes membership to the exclusive Winners Circle Club. Place your bets...24 bottles of Bon Pari Pinot are at the gate.

One Beautiful Big Bottle of Bordeaux A Donation From: Meredythe & Clayt Daley, Jr.

This Lot Includes: 2008 Chateau Palmer, Grand Cru, Margaux, 6L Imperial Our very generous donor collects Chateau Palmer because, he explains, “This chateau frequently exceeds its legendary neighbor, Chateau Margaux, in quality, particularly in years such as 2008.” Robert Parker, who rated this wine a 94 with a drinking range of 2014-2044, called it “one of the superstars of the vintage.” He expanded to say it was “A stunning success for the vintage, and possibly the Margaux of the year. This dense, purple-colored wine is extraordinarily intense and full-bodied, with plenty of tannin and subtle wood. This is a multidimensional, compelling effort with both power and elegance, it offers sweet tannin along with flavors that caress the palate. This is going to be one of the longest-lived wines of 2008.” Elaborating further on its aging potential, Parker felt it “should be reasonably approachable with 3-4 years of bottle age, and will also keep for 30+ years.” And, bear in mind, he was talking about a standard sized bottle, not this rare large format 6-liter size. Fine wine like this ages slower and lives longer in large bottles, demonstrating that sometimes size matters. Opening Bid: $2000

Herrero “TWO Ladies Tending Roses in the Vineyard” A Donation From: Janet Gentile Herrero

This Lot Includes: “Two Ladies Tending Roses in the Vineyard” giclee on canvas by Lowell Herrero, 40” x 48” Lowell’s whimsical piece entitled, “Two Ladies Tending Roses in the Vineyard” honors the passion of vineyard life – in all its forms. Lowell’s delightful, colorful work of art is a sweet ode to the joy and bounty of working the land; you can almost envision those fresh cut roses gracing your home. This charming work was painted in 2001, the same year Lowell moved to Napa Valley. Considering his breadth of vineyard art, we’re pretty sure Napa captivated Lowell as much as the rest of us…except that Lowell clearly had the gift to articulate his vision onto canvas for all to enjoy. About Lowell Lowell Herrero moved into painting in 1966 after a successful career in graphic design…although the truth is, he first began creating art at the age of six! A move to Napa Valley in 2001 inspired paintings that celebrated nature’s beauty and abundance, and those who worked the land. While many of his works are reminiscent of particular places, what Lowell created was a kaleidoscope of all he saw in his own imagination. Lowell was a much beloved member of the Winesong family and a frequent and generous donor of his work to our auctions. We thank his wife Janet for her continued support! Opening Bid: $2000

Certificate for lunch for two (2) guests at Illy Café at CIA Greystone Private Tour of CIA at Greystone by Chef Instructor, Lars Kronmark Chef signed copy of CIA Book of your choice Gift Certificate towards CIA Skills Classes at Culinary Institute of America at Greystone Picture this…it’s the early ’70s; two men are discussing tile work…one admiring the work; the other knowing the man who created it. The one admiring the work was none other than Gil Nickel,

and he wanted to meet the artist. Driving from San Francisco to Marin, Gil met the artist…Tom Rodrigues …just a youngster at 21. Gil commissioned Tom to create a mosaic in his SF home; and from there, a friendship was formed. Fast forward to the mid to late seventies…Gil and his wife Beth purchased an old plot of land with buildings from the original Far Niente that dates back to 1885. Their plan was to renovate and turn it into a world-class winery with old world style. Having developed a friendship, Gil & Beth spent time with Tom. During one visit, Gil saw some labels Tom had created for a farming friend…and he liked what he saw. When Gil & Beth were thinking about labels for their wines, they asked Tom if he would submit his designs, along with a couple of other professional wine label artists. Well, we all know how that turned out! Tom’s first wine label was for Far Niente’s Chardonnay release in 1979. His signature style, along with utilization of gold inlay in the printing process became and remains the iconic look for the Far Niente family of wineries, including Dolce, Nickel and Nickel, EnRoute, and Bella Union. This initial job led Tom to create labels for other wineries throughout his career. This special lot features the Far Niente Family Estate Collection as well as a collection of wines with labels created by Tom from his private cellar. This lot also includes a tour and tasting at Far Niente and at Nickel & Nickel. Lastly, one final connection unearthed is that the designer of the original Far Niente Winery also created the former Christian Brothers Winery – which is now the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. As such, the winning bidder of this lot is also gifted with two certificates for Skills classes at CIA at Greystone, as well as a personal tour and lunch at CIA, and a book personally signed by CIA’s top educator, Chef Lars Kronmark. Bravo for Coro A Donation From: Consortium Mendocino

This Lot Includes: 2015 Coro Mendocino, Barra of Mendocino, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Brutocao Cellars, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Clos du Bois Winery, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Golden Vineyards, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Graziano, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, McFadden, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Parducci Wine Cellars, 1.5L 2015 Coro Mendocino, Testa Vineyards, 1.5L We are especially pleased to include the producers of Coro as part of our offerings at Winesong. The majority of these winemakers reside in Hopland, Redwood Valley, and Potter Valley – all areas that are annually under threat of fire – especially in the last couple of years. We honor them and their contributions to a uniquely Mendocino wine program. Established over 13 years ago, the idea behind Coro was that participating wineries create a Zinfandelbased, blended wine that had to follow specific parameters. In essence, any winery could participate, but only those that passed a review by blind tasting could then carry the Coro label. The parameters set forth through the subgroup of Mendocino wineries, Consortium Mendocino, were that each producer had to use Zinfandel as their main varietal and it had to account for anywhere between 40 and 70 percent of the blend. A secondary varietal could be added but the percentage of it used could not exceed the percentage of Zinfandel used. The result…incredibly interesting wines that showcase the diversity and creativity of the local wine producers. Opening Bid: $1000

Cancer Care Needs – Great and Small Cancer affects us all. Our Winesong Family has sadly lost many friends to cancer since last year. Many more friends are bravely fighting this battle. The reality is that cancer affects ALL of us, and so in thinking about our friends and our community, the Hospital Foundation and Administration have chosen to raise monies for a multi-faceted cancer care approach for the 2018 Fund-A-Need. The goal is to increase access to and enhancement of the comfort and care of patients receiving treatment in the Oncology & Hematology Department at Mendocino Coast District Hospital, as well as provide greater efficiency for patients and personnel within the Departments, and we need your help. One of the most direct ways we can help our community in their fight against cancer is to be able to offer treatment to more patients at a given time. With a bit of renovating, we will increase the number of infusion chairs for treatment. Currently the Hospital has three infusion chairs – one in each chemotherapy space referred to as ‘Chemo Bays’. Two more infusion chairs/chemo bays will be added for a total of five, thereby enabling the Oncology team to treat almost twice as many patients simultaneously. As part of the addition of infusion chairs/chemo bays, the department will need to be renovated to allow for more space. The renovation includes a relocation of the Nurse’s station to provide closer access to patients while they are receiving treatment, thus optimizing patient support. These are some of the larger needs in our Oncology Department.

Small Comforts Make a Big Difference.

As if going through cancer treatment wasn’t bad enough, many have a difficult time financially, and this adds stress which does not help them in their fight or road to recovery. The Elwin Cox Cancer Care Fund provides financial assistance to cancer patients. We want to increase this Fund so that we may provide financial aid in greater quantities and to more patients. You may expressly donate to this particular aspect of our overall Fund-A-Need is honor of a love one who has passed or who is currently in the midst of cancer treatment. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $250,000 for our 2018 FundA-Need. If we exceed this goal, we can add to a long ‘wish’ list of desired items that will improve both patient and caregiver experience relating to cancer care treatment. Please join us in our endeavor to provide enhanced quality of care during what is a life altering experience. Thank you!

Winesong 2018 Fund -a-Need

Patients going through chemotherapy often experience chills, adding to an already uncomfortable experience. Being able to provide warm blankets provides a small comfort that makes a big difference. For Oncology staff, having an ice machine within arm’s reach allows more time to devote to patients rather than having to leave the area. Oftentimes, trying to find veins to extract blood samples can be challenging, by utilizing AccuVein equipment, both patients and nurses will have an easier time giving/taking blood samples. While these items may seem like small requests, what they provide to patient care cannot be measured.

Dry Creek Valley Now & Then A Donation From: Dana Carroll, Dry Creek Vineyards, Pedroncelli, Artist Suzy Long

This Lot Includes: 1982 David S. Stare Estate Bottled Dry Creek Vineyards Reserve 1987 Dry Creek Vineyards Meritage, Dry Creek Valley 2014 Dry Creek Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5L 1985 Lambert Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5L, signed by winemaker Ed Killian 1986 Lambert Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Crane Creek (4) 2013 Pedoncelli Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5L (2) Original 6-bottle wine box from artist Suzy Long

The history of grape growing in Dry Creek Valley is among the longest in California, dating back to the mid 1800’s, yet only receiving formal recognition as an AVA in 1983. Despite acquiring formal recognition in the eighties, there was plenty of grape growing and winemaking happening – before, during and certainly after Prohibition. In fact, Dry Creek Valley was such an incredible place for growing grapes that approximately 1.5 million gallons of wine were produced annually, and that was before prohibition. Of the four wineries that survived prohibition in Dry Creek Valley, only two are still in business and one continues to be a wonderful friend and donor of Winesong – Pedroncelli.

Giovanni and Julia Pedroncelli purchased the winery in the midst of prohibition, though during that time, it was used as a barn. Of course, as soon as prohibition ended, the ‘barn’ reverted back to its original purpose – a winery! Through generations of the Pedroncelli Family and over 9 decades, they continue to produce solid wines. Certainly, there was a lull for a few decades, but in the late fifties through early sixties, winemakers were planting grape, and by the early 70’s – it was a full on revival of winemaking in Dry Creek Valley. Dry Creek Vineyards with David S. Stare at the helm started Dry Creek in ’72, while Lambert Bridge opened its doors in 1975, employing Master Winemaker Ed Killian. Our collection this year heralds the heritage of a few notable wineries in Dry Creek Valley. To help commemorate these wineries, Artist Suzy Long has created another fabulous work of art – a 6-bottle winebox entitled, “Heritage Grapes”. The design depicts an ancient mosaic of grapes, and while Dry Creek Valley and its wineries aren’t ancient in relation to the planet, in California they’re got some heritage!

Imperial Shafer A Donation From: Meredythe & Clayt Daley, Jr.

This Lot Includes: 2006 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District, 6L - Imperial

Doug Shafer and his father John Shafer have been working together for more than twenty-five years. John Shafer founded the winery in 1979 thinking that he was making a savvy investment. Vice president of long-range planning for a Chicago publishing house, he was used to predicting upcoming trends. He foresaw the wine boom and bought 30 acres in the little-known Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. But after a few years as absentee owner, he decided to ditch the corporate grind and commit himself to grape growing. Today, Shafer is regarded by both critics and collectors as one of Napa’s genuine superstars especially with Cabernet Sauvignon. And the Cabernet program is headed by the limited production Hillside Select. A true iconic wine, Hillside Select is made of 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon fruit sourced from rugged hillside vineyard blocks on the Stags Leap District Estate. Hillside Select is aged a full four years prior to release (three years in Alliers and Tronçais oak barrels and one year in the bottle). Since the beginning of the ‘90s, the Shafer Hillside Select has consistently been one of Napa Valley’s richest, deepest and most cellar-worthy Cabernets, as well as an outstanding example of its distinctive Stags Leap District appellation. And the critics agree the 2006 is exceptional and long lived.

From The Wine Spectator: “Firm, dense and chunky, with chewy, extracted tannins and dark berry, gravelly earth, mocha and anise notes, this seems unevolved. No sign of fading or gaining. Ends with gripping tannins.” And The Wine Advocate: “A slightly more compact version of the great Hillside, but nevertheless youthful, the 2006 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select has a dense purple color, some notes of damp earth, cedar wood, forest floor, red and black currants, and toast. Some austere tannins kick in in the finish, but the wine is full-bodied, ripe and rich. An outstanding effort, but not one of the monumental vintages for Hillside Select, it should be drunk over the next 20 years.” And Connoisseur’s Guide: “Among the deepest, most complete Cabernets that we have yet encountered from 2006, Shafer’s latest tête de cuvee wins high praise for both concentration and keen focus. Its plentiful blackcurrant fruit dovetails perfectly with its equally generous oak, and it flavors build and build en route a long and wonderfully sustained finish. There is great scale and substance about this one, yet the wine manages to avoid being too much, and it will age famously for ten years or more on the strength of its exceptional balance.” One Imperial of a True Napa Valley Icon. (For trivia buffs: Only two other wines, Dom and DRC, go by their nicknames in wine circles.) Chateau Cos d’Estournel has a long and distinguished history as a Bordeaux wine property in the St. Estèphe appellation that is as interesting as the estate’s unique architecture. The wines are rich, sensuous, age worthy, concentrated, refined, powerful, elegant and tannic. They are meant to age. Here in this remarkable lot you will experience the best vintages over the last 30 years…every bottle (except

1993) has a score over 90. The highlights are: 1982 (95) 1986 (95) 1995 (95) 2003 (98) 2005 (98) 2009 (100) and 2010 (97+). Reporting in 2009, Robert Parker said: “This 1982 Cos is still displaying a beautiful deep ruby/purple hue as well as a stunning set of aromatics consisting of blue and black fruits, loamy earth, flowers, licorice, and spice box.The wine is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a silky finish. It appears to have hit full maturity, but it can easily be held in a cold cellar for another 10+ years.” The 2000 (96 points Wine Spectator) was #2 on the Top 100 Wines of 2003, Collectibles. “Absolutely gorgeous on the nose, with currants, blackberries and freshly cut flowers. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and a solid core of fruit. This goes on and on the palate. The essence of class and refinement; relatively good value. Considering the superb quality; no better Cos since 1989. Best after 2010.” This amazing lot is topped off with the back to back greats: the 2009 Cos was a 100 point parker wine, and the 2010 a 97+ But the 2014 is not to be ignored. Critic James Suckling gave it 98 points and wrote: “If you want to know what St. Estèphe smells like, this is it. Aromas of spices, black truffles, forest floor, dried strawberries and tar. It’s full-bodied yet pinpointed on the palate with fabulous density and richness. It’s opulent but in a reserved and checked way. This needs at least five or six years to come around, but it’s already fantastic. What harmony and structure.” Try in 2022 if you can keep your hands off it! Hands down, this is an incredible vertical that the Daleys are handing off to the top bidder. So raise your hands (holding paddle)...

Famous for his Napa Cabernet and bordeaux blends, one-time attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer began to focus on estate grown grapes in the 1990s. In 1998 on the advice of the famous consultant, Helen Turley, he acquired a vineyard on the extreme Sonoma Coast. It is a unique cold-climate growing area west of the Russian River Valley and a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. This vineyard, today known as “Wayfarer,” is located the proverbial “stone’s throw” from Turley’s established and highly- esteemed Marcassin Vineyard. The new site was reworked and replanted by viticultural legend, David Abreu. This lot brings you the first six vintages of Pahlmeyer Pinot. “One cannot think of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the most celebrated cru of the Southern Rhone,” says Kermit Lynch, the famous wine importer, without thinking of Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. The wines of Vieux Télégraphe evoke the concept of terroir in its purest form.” The Brunier family is legendary in its own right. They chose the name Vieux Télégraphe from an aging signal tower built in 1792 by Claude Chappe. Chappe is the inventor of the optical telegraphe. The first vintage to be produced and bottled at Vieux Télégraphe was the 1900.

Henri Brunier took over managing Vieux Télégraphe by the late 1940’s. It was Henri Brunier that was responsible for expanding their vineyards and promoting the brand outside of France. Beginning in 1988, the sons of Henri Brunier, Frederic Brunier and Daniel Brunier, took over management and they have demonstrated an ability to make great wine even in difficult vintages. Their goal is to find a harmony between aromatic complexity, tannic structure, and richness, which they achieve year after year. All of the wines in this lot are from highly regarded vintages. The 1995 was a favorite of The Wine Spectator which rated it 95 points. The comment: “This offers the classic profile of Châteauneuf, with complexity and length bred by world class terroir.” The 2015 was a 96 point wine from James Suckling who wrote: “A wine with playful, attractive character. An array of red, blue and purple fruits. Gently spicy, chalky and fragrant, it has a very supple, fleshy and layered palate with a web of fine, smooth and supple tannins. Extremely elegant and composed. A long draw on the finish. Great depth and drive. This will live super long.Try after 2020.” Also enjoying a rich history, Les Bosquets des Papes has been a working vineyard in Chateauneuf du Pape since 1860. Founded by the Boiron family, the domaine has been owned by the same family for 6 generations. For a period of time, the estate produced and sold their wine under the name of Clos Chantemerle. That practice began in 1936. The name was changed to Les Bosquets des Papes in 1966. Typically, the final wine contains about 75% Grenache, 11% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and tiny amounts of other varieties. They too age well, as evidence by the 1993 which is just now approaching its peak. An 18-bottle collection of Châteauneuf-du-Pape….

This Lot Includes: 1999 Vineyard 29 Cabernet Sauvignon (6) in original box The 1999 Vineyard 29 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals powerful aromas of ripe fruits, earth, spice and anise. The nose is intense and expresses a feel of viscosity and concentration. The oak is very well integrated which brings some nuances of vanilla and cream. The mouth feel is elegant with a velvety texture. The wine is round, full bodied with layers of black currant, cassis and ripe sweet cherry. The finish is dense, long and chewy with refined tannins.” —Philippe Melka, winemaker. Robert Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate: “The 1999 exhibits cassis and licorice characteristics, along with considerable smoky new oak. Although the finish is angular and tough, everything else is impressive, including pure, ripe, concentrated fruit, medium body, Bordeaux-like, austere tannin, and good density, sweetness, and richness.” Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar: “Dark ruby. Complex nose combines cassis, boysenberry, black cherry, minerals, leather, cedar and flowers. Suave, elegant and harmonious but with no shortage of power or backbone. This wine’s fruit reminded me of Rauzan-Segla. Finishes with strong, ripe tannins and excellent length. Potentially the best yet from this densely planted hillside vineyard.”

Or do we go with their cheeky explanation: “When we started our journey as a hands-on vineyard and winery, we had nothing “toulouse”?” To anyone who knows Vern and Maxine and loves them as much as their wonderful wines, it doesn’t matter. LOT 518 At the Cliff

Artist Joseph DuVivier has been working in oils since 1985, and enjoys the range, immediacy and flexibility of the medium. This year, he created a six bottle box perfectly entitled “At the Cliffs”. His work is representational with a focus on the emotional effects of visual perception. Filling this 6-bottle wood box is a fabulous offering from Harmonique – their 2012 Pinot Noir, Suitcase Clone 828. What does that mean? The lore is that someone snuck into one of the great Burgundy producers in France, cut some vines, wrapped them carefully, and smuggled them back to California, where they then propagated and have produced some lovely wines. Is the story true? Who can say…all we know is that the Harmonique in this lot hasn’t even been release yet and only 76 cases were produced. In other words, this is a hot ticket item!
