TWABR Celebrated its Auspicious First Anniversary in Truly Memorable Style Exactly on May 31, when The Winery at Bull Run celebrated its auspicious one-year anniversary, Lilly Hickox was born to winery owners Jon and Kimberley Hickox. As a memorable endeavor to celebrate the arrival of their beloved daughter Lily, Jon introduced a new wine Lilly's Viognier after his daughter's name. This was a marvelous way indeed to have twin celebration for TWABR's first anniversary and arrival of new child member to the Hickox family. It sounded absolutely great to have a new wine named after the name of the owner's newest family addition and the official grape of Old Dominion. You will be amazed to know the rich & interesting history associated with the Viognier white wine grapes. This variety of grapes was grown only in France in 1961 and was on the verge of extinction at a time. Thanks to the valiant efforts of viticulturists, it is also grown nowadays in South America, California, Australia and Virginia. Viognier was marketed as “Virginia’s signature grape” once the Virginia wine Board approved this grape variety for marketing in 2011. Viognier grape is not the most easiest variety to grow. You can experience notes of peach, apricot and some tropical fruits. Wines produced using this variety feature a nice blend of aromatic fruits & acid. Despite the fact that most Viogniers are dry, taste-buds may amazingly detect the fruit intensity as sweet. In our very first year in this business, we sold an amazing 66,000 wine bottles and Viognier was one of the 18 varieties we offered. Talking of the winery's first year, we have been quite busy throughout as we hosted 25 wedding & private events besides 10 bigger public gatherings including Civil War Day, Family Fun Day, and Bluebell Music Festival. During this time, we were also engaged in different modification activities like parking lot expansion, completion of our Generals Deck and Patio and building East Lawn Pavilion and Barn. We thank and acknowledge all the nice people including our dedicated staff, event planners, musicians, winemakers, and caterers who have been with us during all these activities.
