One Step at a Time The Power of Small Wins It can be tough to stay motivated when you’re working on big goals. Sometimes it feels like you’re not making any progress at all, and it’s easy to get discouraged. But if you break your goal down into small steps, it becomes a lot more manageable. And when you achieve small wins along the way, it keeps your motivation level high and helps you stay focused on your ultimate goal.

A small win is simply a victory or success, no matter how small. It could be something as simple as making your bed in the morning or taking a break from work to go for a walk. Another way to think about a small win is as a manageable task that you can complete in a relatively short amount of time. For instance, if you’re trying to eat healthier, a small win might be substituting a baked good for a piece of fruit every day. Small wins are important for several reasons: 1. Small Wins Indicate Progress, Which Serves As Intrinsic Motivation People are motivated by progress. Making progress every day towards your goals keeps you moving forward. Progress gives you a sense of accomplishment and keeps you motivated to continue working towards your larger goals.

“Mudita” is word from Sanskrit and Pali that has no counterpart in English. It means sympathetic or unselfish joy, or joy in the good fortune of others. Page 1

Small Wins Keep You Focused Small wins help break down the feeling that your goal is overwhelming and impossible to achieve. This is why people who set smaller goals tend to be more successful than those who set large goals. When you set a goal with no speci c plan or strategy, you end up feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. But when you set small goals, you have a clear plan of action and you know exactly what you need to do to achieve your goal. This keeps you focused and motivated to keep going. Small wins also give you something to look forward to. If you know that you’re going to accomplish a small win today, you’ll be much more likely to do so than if you didn’t think you were going to accomplish anything.

3. Small Wins Increase Your Con dence The more con dent you are, the easier it is to accomplish your goals. When you believe in yourself and your abilities, you’ll take action and follow The Windhoek Connection, 8 November 2022 fi

How to Set Yourself Up for Success with Small Wins 1) Start With A Plan Before you begin any new endeavor, create a plan. Without a plan, you’ll feel overwhelmed and discouraged. You’ll probably end up quitting before you’ve even started. Start by breaking your goal down into small, manageable steps. Then, create a timeline for when you want to achieve each step. 2) Set Realistic Expectations Make sure that the steps and timeline in your plan are realistic and achievable so that you can stay motivated and on track. Look for any serious aws in your plan, such as unrealistic expectations. They only set you up for failure

3) Keep Track Of Your Progress Keeping track of your progress is key to accomplishing your overall goal. You need to see how far you’ve come and where you still have left to go. This way, you’ll always be able to tell whether you’re making progress or falling behind. 4) Celebrate Small Wins Acknowledge your accomplishments and celebrate them. Even if you don’t think you deserve it, acknowledge your small successes anyway. Celebrating small wins is important because it motivates you to continue working toward your larger goal. 5) Make Sure You’re Passionate About Your Goal You need to be passionate about your goal for small wins to work. If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, it will be very dif cult to stay motivated and achieve your goals. 6) Don’t Be Afraid To Fail Failure is part of life. We all fail at things sometimes, especially if it’s

our rst attempt at something. But don’t let that stop you from going after your goals. 7) Find A Support Group Or Accountability Partner Having someone to support and encourage you can make all the difference. Find a friend or family member who will be cheering you on along the way and keeping you accountable. You could also join an online community or support group. Or, hire a coach or accountability partner to help you stay on track. Another effective idea is to use an accountability calendar. Every time you meet a milestone, mark it on your calendar. Before you know it you’ll start achieving streaks of success, streaks that you will become increasingly motivated not to break. Small Wins Can Lead to Happiness. To many people, happiness seems unachievable. They think that to be happy, they need to achieve their goals. But the truth is, happiness doesn’t come from achieving your goals. Happiness comes from taking small steps towards your goals. Source: A little dose of Happy
