The Wanda CS Fundraiser was started on 1 Februaryexactly one week ago.

In 7 days the fund raised over N$1,200,000!!! Almost the full amount needed to cover Wanda’s medical expenses.

Wanda left for Germany a week ago to attend to the first 2 appointments at the clinic. She found accommodation amongst friends and family.

In a voice note, she voiced her gratitude for all the supportfinancially and otherwise - and stated that, in the event that more funds are indeed raised than needed, these would be passed on to other person in need. This additional beneficiary has in the meantime been identified as the Okanti Foundation.

Amongst the financial contributions, other pledges were also received, giving rise to another avenue of funding: an online auction! Read more on page 3.

WANDA Fundraiser

she cannot afford on her own.

In 2019 Wanda was diagnosed with low-grade chondrosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer, located in her sinus. Wanda needs urgent radiation treatment at the West German Proton Therapy Centre in Essen, Germany, to keep her eyesight. Her medical insurance, might not or only partially cover the estimated cost of EUR 70,000.00, which she cannot afford on her own.

Online Auction

We are a group of friends and family members of Wanda helping with the fundraising initiative - WANDA FUNDRAISER to raise funds to cover her medical expenses of EUR70,000. With worldwide support, we have been able to almost reach this goal within the first week. However, what is not included in the EUR70,000 is an additional EUR7,000 which is required to cover the flight and accommodation for the 8 weeks while in Essen.

We have gratefully received a few commitments from companies and individuals for vouchers or goods donated towards the fundraising initiative, hence we have decided that we would like to organize an online auction to raise the additional EUR7 000. The online auction will be launched on the 13th of February 2023. If you or your company are willing to contribute something towards this auction please let us know by the 10th of February 2023.

Should more funds be raised than required the difference shall be donated towards the Okanti Foundation which supports Namibian families with a chronically ill child.

On Friday 10th of February at 19:00 and Saturday, 11th of February at 10h00. To inspire a future generation of Namibian scientists and engineers, the AMT team has brought a mobile planetarium to Namibia. This planetarium will travel to schools and train both teachers and learners about the wonders of the universe.

The mobile planetarium is an inflatable dome. On the inside of the dome, interactive images of the night sky and can be projected. One can look at the Earth, the moon, sun and planets, but also zoom out to see other stars, galaxies and other interesting phenomena. Venue is the hall of Namibia Scientific Society. A small Donation for your participation would be highly appreciated. Registration is required!

Village Sunday Market

The Village Sunday Market is a place for high quality local vendors and craftsmen to sell their products and produce to the public. All goods available are proudly local and of only the finest quality. The market was started by Alain Seha with his company Urban Eden during times of the coronavirus as an opportunity for struggling local artisans to find a market for their products and since then the market has begun taking a life of its own.

Takes place every Sunday at The Village Garden from 9 am to 3 pm.

Salted Caramels

Treat your nearest and dearest to these homemade salted caramels. The perfect edible gift, wrap them up in a gift box for a deliciously decadent treat

Ingredients

• 70g unsalted butter, plus extra for the tin

• 200ml double cream

• ½ tsp vanilla extract

• 150g golden granulated sugar

• 150g golden syrup

• 1 heaped tsp flaky sea salt

• flavorless oil, for the knife

You will need

• sugar thermometer or digital probe

Method

1. Butter and line the base and sides of a 20 x 30cm tin with baking parchment

2. Pour the cream into a saucepan along with the butter and vanilla, then bring to a simmer. Swirl the pan to melt the butter, then remove from the heat.

3. In a separate pan, melt the sugar and golden syrup together, stirring occasionally. Once the sugar granules have dissolved, bring to the boil and cook until the temperature reaches 155C on a sugar thermometer. Remove from the heat and swiftly whisk through the cream mixture. Return to the heat and cook until the mixture reaches 127C, constantly whisking so it doesn’t catch.

4. Pour the caramel into the tin, tilting so it reaches the corners. Leave to set for 15 mins, then sprinkle with the salt. Leave to cool completely at room temperature (preferably overnight). Cut into squares using a very sharp, slightly oiled knife, then wrap each one in a square of baking parchment.
