The Windhoek Connection - 18 October 2022

In the issue of 7 June we introduced to you Michelle Loubser and The Drama Club.

With a bumpy start during 2021, Michelle regrouped to work even harder, successfully relaunching The Drama Club in time for 2022, hosting 14 students, aged 11 - 19.

Traditionally, these acting classes classes are made up of 12 modules, each building on the previous one over a 12 month period. The year is then concluded with a class concert and a workshop presented by a well known actor / performer working within the industry, spending time with

The Drama Club the students and offering guidance and sharing wisdom, exposing them to a more in depth view of what it means to be an actor / performer.

Connection

This time, Michelle reached out to South African actors, Je-ani Swiegelaar and Germandt Geldenhuys - you might know them from the Kyk-Net soapie “Binneland”.

While on tour in Namibia performing their hit-show “Keelvol”, they took some time to spend time with The Drama Club students to inspire and motivate them.

Laziness will never turn your dreams into reality. Be epic today!

As Namibia has relatively few residents (3 per km2) compared to other countries i.e. South Africa (25 per km2), it would take much more work to establish a full time career in performance art in Namibia.

The students were excited to learn from the actors, working within the industry, and some were even completely star struck!

Germandt and Je-ani, however, made everyone feel at ease and soon everyone was able to relax and take in what these actors could teach.

Thank you, Germandt and Je-ani, for the time and commitment in teaching the next generation of performers.
