Any visit to the Bitterroot Valley should include a visit to Travelers’ Rest State Park. Used as a campsite by Lewis & Clark on their journey to and from the Pacific Ocean, it’s the only site with physical evidence of their journey. In the years before Lewis & Clark, this area was used by American Indian tribes as a gathering point and crossroads. Each winter, the park celebrates the age-old art of storytelling at their Winter Storytelling Series—featuring tribal elders and local historians. DALY MANSION MUSEUM Stroll through a piece of the south with a visit to the Daly Mansion in Hamilton. Built by “Montana Copper King” Marcus Daly as his family’s summer home, the mansion is a beautiful display of Georgian-Revival architecture.
