ver the next issues we will give you some insight into the Insurance aspect of being a boat owner. In the event of a loss there is a certain amount of uncertainty as to what procedures or course of action that needs to be followed. We shall set out a clear list of procedures to follow so that the insurers will be able to settle your claim efficiently and accurately.

Procedures to follow: ■ In the event of damage or loss, most importantly

you must immediately take all reasonable steps to minimize any further loss or damage ■ Be careful not to alter the condition of the damaged property until the Insurers say that you may ■ Do not abandon the property

■ Do not negotiate, settle by way of payment, admit

or reject a loss on behalf of the Insurers. ■ Notify the police as soon as reasonably possible of loss or damage caused by theft or malicious damage. There may also be times that you are obligated to advise the police in respect of maritime accidents ■ Notify the Insurers as soon as possible of the loss supplying them with the following information ■ Details of the loss, damage or injury ■ Any claim against you (Where you may be at fault) ■ Inquest, prosecution or public enquiry ■ Forward any summons, legal process or any other communication in connection with the claim ■ You or anyone acting on your behalf making any fraudulent, false or exaggerated claims, otherwise
