More than 100 area businesses are gearing up to showcase their services and products at the third annual Wilson Spring Expo. The Expo will be at the Wilson Recreation Center, 500 Sunset Road, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event promises to offer something for everyone, and the city’s miniature train will be in operation on the recreation center grounds, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Rebecca Tew, member services manager for the Wilson Chamber of Commerce, • Carpet • Vinyl • Laminate • Hardwood Expo host. • Blinds • LVT Plank & Tile The popularity of the • Free Estimates • Financing Available event is increasing, with Email: carpetbydavid2700@yahoo.com all vendor spaces sold out, said Ryan Simons, Wilson Chamber of Commerce president. 2664 Forest Hills Rd. In addition to the business displays, there will be a kid’s corner that will offer activities for children. A main stage will also provide “15 Minutes of Fame” programs throughout the day. The “15 Minutes of Fame” lineup includes the Jones Elementary School chorus at 11 a.m., Land of Learning Child Care at noon, Dong’s Martial Arts at 1 p.m., The Singer’s Studio at 2 p.m., and Toe to Toe Dance Studio at 3 p.m. The Wilson Spring Expo is open to the public, and there is no cost to attend. “People might be surprised at how much variety is at this year’s Wilson Spring Expo,” Simons said. “There’s something for everyone.” The Wilson Spring Expo is an opportunity for businesses, which are not required to be members of the chamber to participate. rochelle@wilsontimes.com | 265-7818

Tickets on sale at Expo for fundraiser to benefit elementary school By Jennifer Strickland Imagine being in elementary school and going outside for your favorite time of day . . .recess. Only, once you get outside, there is no swing set waiting for you. Or monkey bars. Or even a slide. Suddenly, you realize the only thing you have to do is make up your own games and try to make the best of it. This is the reality at Margaret Hearne Elementary School in Wilson. Currently, there is not much to speak of in the way of playground equipment at the school. While imagination and the ability to entertain themselves are great skills for a child to possess in order to expand their creativity, every child should have access to playground equipment to play on. Each year, the Dynamic Leadership class through the Wilson Chamber of Commerce chooses a class project to raise funds for and complete prior to graduating in June.

The 2016 class has chosen a pretty hefty class project. They’re going to build a playground for the kids at Margaret Hearne Elementary School. And they’re going to need your help to do it. The total cost of purchasing the equipment, installation, and landscaping is expected to top $20,000. Several fundraisers have already been completed and there are a few more coming up. A Pizza Inn Doughraiser is planned for Monday night, March 7 from 5-8 p.m. at the restaurant at 700 Ward Blvd. in Wilson. A portion of all proceeds during that time will be donated to the class to help with their project. Additional donations will also be accepted. In addition to the Doughraiser, the class is also selling tickets for a spaghetti plate fundraiser to he held on Friday, March 18.

Tickets for the spaghetti plate sale can be purchased from any Dynamic Leadership class member or the Chamber of Commerce office and are $7. Tickets will be available during the Expo and can be purchased at the Dynamic Leadership booth, #10. The spaghetti plate sale will be held on Friday, March 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All plates will include spaghetti, salad and breadsticks. Pickup will be at the BB&T Blle Meade branch, at 3400 Raleigh Rd.Pkwy. W. Delivery is available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for orders of 10 or more plates. If you wish to donate to the fundraiser, you may drop donations by the Chamber of Commerce office during regular business hours. Members of the Dynamic Leadership class can also take donations. Contact the Chamber of Commerce or any member of the Dynamic Leadership class for more information on fundraisers.
