FABRICATION MANUAL APPLYING YOUR NEW LEAF™ COLOR-MATCHED EDGEBAND Safety is a critical concern for any shop and a key part of a successful business. The following safety rules should be incorporated into your safety program to help prevent an accident. Safety training, knowledge, product use, and environment are the facility owner and the shop employees’ responsibility. Items you will need • Spray Contact Adhesive • Painter’s Tape • Pressure Roller • Shears • Edgeband Trim Tool or Razor • Fine File • Adhesive Cleaner

STEP 1 Mask the edges of the decorative surface where you intend to apply the edgeband. Mask all edges at the same time. You may also choose to mask the non-decorative backer side of the material. Please Note - Masking the material is optional; however, it will make clean-up much easier and is time well invested. TIP: To minimize clean-up, you may choose to tape cardboard or paper to the entire surface. It is important that the painter’s tape or other masking material does not overlap the edge.

FABRICATION MANUAL STEP 2 Measure your edgeband and cut it to length so that it is ¾” to 1” longer than the edge to which it will be applied. TIP: The extra length will allow you to tape the edgeband flat to the disposable surface and make adhesive application much easier.

STEP 3 Following the manufacturer’s instructions, apply the spray contact adhesive to the back of the edgeband strips as well as to the edges of your New Leaf ™ project panel.

STEP 4 After the contact adhesive has dried to the adhesive manufacturer’s specification, apply the edge band to the edge of the panel, leaving a bit of overhang on the ends. These will be trimmed to the edges in the subsequent steps. TIP: You may align the edge band to the panel’s top (decorative) surface to limit trimming to the back (non-decorative) side. This allows trimming in one pass as well limits the risk of damaging the... USE CAUTION: Once the edgeband is applied, it is difficult or impossible to remove or reposition without ruining the strip. Make certain the strip is placed exactly where you need it.

FABRICATION MANUAL STEP 5 There are two roller styles demonstrated here: a J-type roller (on the right) and a hand roller (below). Either type is very effective.

STEP 6 Using your shears or razor, trim the excess material flush with the corner of your project panel. Repeat the process for all edges of your panel.

STEP 7 Carefully trim the corners where your two strips meet to form a clean joint.

STEP 8 You may now remove your painter’s tape (if the panel was masked prior to applying the adhesive).

FABRICATION MANUAL STEP 9 Using an edgeband trimming tool or razor, trim the edgeband flush with both surfaces of your panel. TIP: It is highly recommended for both safety and quality to use an edgeband trimming tool. These are readily available in home improvement and hardware stores. Clean up - You may clean up any adhesive overspray with a soft cloth and a cleaning agent recommended by the adhesive manufacturer such as denatured alcohol.

STEP 10 Detail the edges and corner joints. If necessary, you may use a fine file to detail or clean up the trim and corner joints. TIP: Very light pressure should be used on the file to avoid damage to the decorative surface. Make sure to angle the file only to make. Your edge-banded decorative panel is now ready to enjoy!
