A LETTER FROM MARK I would like to start off by saying that if you are reading this, you are a real estate professional with passion, hopes, and dreams. You have been looking for new and creative ways to thrive during an unprecedented event in human history; an event that has affected everyone on planet earth. You are looking for ways to break through glass ceilings in your personal and professional life in efforts to acquire more wealth, abundance, and fulf illment. I, too, have been on a similar journey, a journey that has recently compelled me to give back through teaching and mentoring the agent leaders of tomorrow. Since I left my role as CEO of Keller Williams Realty in 2014, the company that I helped build f rom 700 agents to the number one real estate company in the world, I have been on a search for what’s really important in life. I also lost my wife of 35 years to an aggressive form of breast cancer in May of 2019, a tragic loss that has been extraordinarily difficult to move on f rom. This event, along with others over the past 6 years, has forced me to perceive life and business through a different lens - and as I began to discover my new normal, I realized that the best way to give back to the business community I love is through teaching. My goal with the Mark Willis Leadership Journal is to publish valuable content that helps you get everything you want out of your life and career. I am also excited to share that in late 2020, I partnered with Fo rbe s to bri n g a f fo rd a b l e , 1 0 0 % vi r tual e d ucati o n to real e state professionals. Our promise is to help the women and men of this industry earn more money while maximixing their potential and navigating their path to self-actualization. Within our courses we share the learnings, daily activities, and the tried-and-true self-leadership principles that I developed over the years to reach the very top of the real estate industry. For more information on my Forbes School courses, please visit: www.willisleadership.com. In my new role as a teacher I have found a reenergized sense of purpose, and my passion for real estate has been reborn! I truly hope you enjoy the journal, and I look forward to seeing all of you in the classroom! Sincerely,

Mark Willis

Two Wolves

CH ER OKEE

PR OVERB

This is one of our favorite stories... An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Review, Sean Gallagher and Jason Palmer share their thoughts on how current market behavior is pushing Universities online, a change they believe is long overdue. “The market is increasingly demanding that colleges and universities move beyond bachelor’s degrees as their primary product, towards more nimble, lower priced, digital ‘credentialized packages’ of learning and mastery valued by employers – which will be essential in a digital economy where continuous upskilling is needed to keep pace with technological advances and the

shrinking shelf-life of skills.”

It’s worth noting that such a change to the system may also unlock opportunity for some 71 million Americans who, according to recent research, have the skills to succeed in higher wage jobs but are systematically overlooked bcause they lack four-year degrees.”

I agree with both Gallagher and Palmer. Virtual education models focused on bringing high quality, affordable education to everyone is the future. And it has been long overdue. That said, considering Willis’ massive success in the real estate industry, coupled with the fact that a vast majority of students are leaning into virtual higher education models for learning, growth, and improvement, I believe this new partnership between Mark Willis and the Forbes School will be a disruptive success. etting goals and holding yourself accountable for results is essential to achieving what you want to achieve in life. You have to be able to visualize what you want and set goals that challenge you and take you out of your depth and comfort zones. This is the secret to breaking

through glass ceilings and accomplishing greatness. You have to push and believe in yourself! This

reminds me of a quote f rom the great John Wooden.

“Goals should be difficult to achieve because those achieved with little effort are seldom appreciated, give little personal satisfaction, and are often not very worthwhile. There is a price to be paid for achieving anything of significance.”

Here is how it works:

1 2 3 4

Write down your annual goals for next year. Think big.

At the beginning of each month, write down the monthly goals that you feel will best help you reach your annual goals.

Each week you will write down the weekly goals that you feel will help you to reach your monthly goals.

Every day, write down your daily goals that will keep you on track to reaching your weekly goals.

Use the AMWD worksheet on the next page as a guide to reaching your highest heights in 2021. The AMWD is both a goal setting and accountability tool. Remember that consistency, effort, and self-accountability are keys to mastery. You have to remain disciplined and consistently course correct to stay on track. Def ine what you want to achieve and visualize your success. Write down your goals. Hold yourself accountable. And stay on track!

KEY LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES The combined principles below act as a North Star in my personal and professional life. They are the words that best represent my truths. They are the powerful statements that I review almost daily that keep me on track, direct me toward solutions, and help me to make some of the most important decisions I make in my life. 13 KEY LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES

I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X XI XII XIII

Lead with your heart, not with your head. We think in our heads, we know in our hearts. It is in your heart that you will find your truth.

Give first, keep giving, and maybe you’ll receive.

If you wanna THRIVE, you gotta STRIVE. And as you strive - STRIVE for growth and excellence, not perfection.

KFG. Stay in motion. Inactivity is the enemy of the human condition, and the most important work you do is the work you do on yourself. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses to achieve at the highest level.

Ask, don’t tell. Understand before you speak.

Identify, master, and stay focused on the basics.

Nobody has to lose for you to win. Always look for win-win solutions. The evolutionary foundation of both humanity and business is rooted in dealings that are mutually beneficial.

Always make people feel respected and safe and have respect for every human encounter.

Choose your relationships wisely. In the end, you can only control two things: the relationships you choose to go into, and the mindset you adopt. Surround yourself with people who compliment your strengths and compensate for your weaknesses. Never complain about that which you do willingly.

Search and evaluate for soulful progress. Go beyond the superficial layer. Live your truth. Work your truth.

Inspect what you expect. Check, check, double-check, and always have a strong plan B.

Lead with revenue, not expenses whenever possible and hold your activities, and your capital, accountable for results.

Take advice f rom others who have been there before. The wheel is round; you do not have to reinvent it. When stuck or not making progress, seek help f rom others who have broken through the ceiling you’re hitting.

Music literally reverberates through each of us as we share the experience of the message it carries or the feeling it creates. Whether it’s nodding our head to the beat or dancing with friends on a table, music moves us to keep fucking going (KFG).

Delve into our soul and share the experience of music with us through two songs that we love. Next, learn the profound influence that an artist, who died at age 21 last year, has on the next generation of hip hop and why we named Juice WRLD as our Artist of the Year.

Juice WRLD’s first hit single “Lucid Dreams” entered the mainstream in 2018. The artist describes the song as a therapy session while going through a difficult relationship. Today, the song has received more than one billion plays on Spotify, making it one of the most played songs on the platform.

MARK WILLIS

Juice WRLD’s posthumous third studio album Legends Never Die, released July 10, 2020, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, earning the largest week of 2020 for any album3. The album features a variety of artists f rom different genres and showcases Juice WRLD’s versatility as an artist. The song “Come & Go,” with electronic producer Marshmello, is more rock ‘n’ roll than rap or electronic. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 2. Today, “Come & Go” and “Lucid Dreams” are currently the artist’s highest charting songs. Juice WRLD was truly an artist who used his music as therapy to share his story with the world. His vulnerability and emotional authenticity made his art more universally accessible. We find comfort in the message of his last album, that Legends Never Die. •

Hailing from Chicago, IL, Juice WRLD is one of the founding fathers of emo rap music. Emo, short for “emotional” rap, is a sub-genre of hip hop that became popular in the late 2010s. It is a blend of rap and emo rock that has its strongest following with a younger generation of fans. In 2018, the music streaming platform Spotify named “emo rap” its fastest growing genre. Emo rap music addresses emotional subject matter that ranges from the more universal experience of heartbreak, to using drugs to cope with harsh realities, and suicidal ideation. Juice WRLD claims he discusses matters that traditional rap artists are afraid to admit, such as being vulnerable and hurt - themes that we all as emotional beings can relate to.

The Perfect Pairing featuring

Those in Mark’s inner circle know that his idea of the perfect evening involves great food, great friends, and of course - great wine! As we began putting together the Mark Willis Leadership Journal, we soon realized that we couldn’t have Mark’s name on a magazine without also devoting a few pages to the food and wine he loves. In this edition of The Perfect Pairing, we are spotlighting one of Mark’s favorite Napa Valley winemakers, Cakebread Cellars. Family owned and operated since 1973, Cakebread Cellars’ winemaking philosophy is to create elegantly balanced wines that are stylistically consistent year to year and drink beautifully when paired with food. While Mark loves most of the Cakebread wine offerings, he especially loves their big, dramatic reds. In this pairing, we feature the 2017 Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, paired with red wine braised short ribs and a shaved vegetable and herb salad. This brilliant wine, described as having aromas of boysenberry, black cherry, and fig with accents of the forest floor, goes wonderfully with the braised short ribs. Both are intense, bold, and full of flavor. We hope you enjoy this amazing pairing as much as we have. Feel free to let us know what you think! info@willisleadership.com

2021 U.S REAL ESTATE MARKET OUTLOOK

I

n this premier edition of the Mark Willis Leadership magazine, we would like to take you on a brief tour of the economic

indications concerning the real estate industry for the year 2021… from an astrological point of view.

The current winter ingress chart is December 21, 2020 at 5:02:12 AM in Washington DC over the United States. The typical practice is to erect these charts for the capital of the nation, which is considered to stand for the nation as a whole. Could we use other locations? Yes, and we can refine our technique by transposing local charts onto the maps of counties and cities. But for our purposes of forecasting a broader overview of the real estate markets
