William Heikkinen’s Life as a Football Star William Heikkinen, wide receiver for Brown University’s Brown Bears, has had a long run of sporting and academic success. Beginning his football career in eighth grade, the player had no idea at the time that he would end up passionately pursuing American football as a career. William Heikkinen’s interest in sports began early on, as he grew up with two parents and two siblings were all very active and enjoyed different sporting activities such as skiing, fishing, basketball, baseball and football. As the oldest of three children, William was always very motivated and driven to reach his goals. William Heikkinen started out by playing Little League baseball at a young age, and after enjoying the thrill and excitement of competitive team sports started playing football in eighth grade. Despite suffering the occasional injury, William was not put off, and continued to enjoy his new favorite pastime. It was in these early sporting experiences in William Heikkinen’s life that went on to form the basis of his success as a football star. The player has credited these times with teaching him the value of teamwork, competition, practice and hard work. After several years playing the sport, William Heikkinen’s life and experience as a football player were about to take a turn for the better. As William moved on to Andover High School in Massachusetts, he was selected to play for the Golden Warriors, his school’s American Football team. This was to mark a major turn in William Heikkinen’s life and football career. At 6 foot 1 inches and 195 pounds, William Heikkinen was a great benefit to the Andover Golden Warriors, and was noted by a teammate at the beginning of his high school football career as being ‘one to watch’. This encouraged William, who worked hard to improve his football skills in order to succeed on the field. Knowing how to use his size and speed to his advantage, William Heikkinen went on to make a major impression on spectators and other players when , in only his junior year, he made a scene-stealing catch during a game against North Andover and virtually monopolized a game against rivals Haverhill. These were the first in a line of events that would prove the teammate’s prediction true. By the time William Heikkinen’s high school life and football career had come to an end, he hadamassed 126 catches for 1,960 receiving yards, both of these being Andover High School records. In addition to this, William added 22 touchdowns as well as 7 interceptions from his cornerback position in his final season. William Heikkinen’s high school life and football career also brought a host of awards and accolades. William was named Student Athlete of the Month by Andover’s local Eagle Tribune and First All-State Team by the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. William was also two-time Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star. William Heikkinen’s school life achievements also mirror those he made on the football field. William was named to the Honor Roll every term throughout his high school career and was also a Winner of the Chemistry and Survey of Film Underclassmen award.


William also volunteered in his spare time, joining several other high school seniors to assist children struggling academically at the Robert L Frost Elementary School in Lawrence, Massachusetts. William Heikkinen received a letter of commendation from the school principal for the difference he made to both the children’s lives and the school as a whole. Now continuing his life and football career at Brown University, William Heikkinen is looking to continue his excellent results and achievements on and off the field. With the recommendation and support of his coaches and teachers, William certainly has very little reason not to succeed and achieve his football and academic goals.
