William Steinberg’s professional story is rooted in curiosity, discipline, and adaptability that were shaped early in life. Raised in a Marine Corps family, with a father who served nearly 35 years as a pilot, he grew up relocating often and adjusting quickly to new environments. Those experiences nurtured resilience and an appreciation for structured systems. Alongside academics, he balanced creative and physical pursuits, learning guitar and competing on his high school basketball team, habits that reinforced focus and teamwork. William earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University, where theory was paired with real-world application. During a six-month internship at NASA’s Langley Research Center, he contributed to the HALOE project, which was used on space shuttle missions to collect solar data. He later completed a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at California State University, Northridge, earning Tau Beta Pi membership and gaining deep experience in embedded systems, digital hardware, and signal processing. He began his engineering career in California at McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on development programs for the MD-80, MD-11, and C-17 aircraft. His responsibilities included embedded firmware, operating system software, and tools for airborne data-acquisition systems that required rigorous testing and precision. In 1994, William transitioned from aerospace to finance by joining Morgan Stanley in New York City. Over the following decades, he worked on C++ infrastructure, mortgage-backed securities platforms, equity trading systems, and real-time market data tools used globally. At Goldman Sachs, Vice President William Steinberg supported the equities electronic market-making and quantitative trading groups, developing systems for futures ETFs and desk-level risk management across US exchanges.
