SPECIES: Rocky Mountain Bighorn OUTFITTER: Stetter Outfitters GUIDE: Lane Stringer LOCATION: Wyoming
I was very happy to be drawn at70plus years young and my first sheep hunt. We had a 20-mile horse trip in and 20-miles out. My granddaughter said I would have a sore bottom. She was right. The hunt was over 11,000 ft elevation and was steep. I asked the guide if he was sure we could get down from where we were hunting and he said getting down was not the problem... living through it was the hard part!

SPECIES: Rocky Mountain Goat/Dall’s Sheep OUTFITTER: Self-Guided LOCATION: Alaska
The Alaskan mountains were very good to me this year. I arrowed my 10th sheep and my 13th mountain goat on self-guided bow hunts in my home state. The Dall’s sheep was 41” long and 10 years old. The mountain goat was over 9”. I could not be more pleased with the results of this season’s mountain hunts. It does not always work out, but this season it did! Good luck to everyone on your mountain hunting adventures.

SPECIES: Desert Bighorn OUTFITTER: La Palmosa GUIDE: Emilio Rangel LOCATION: Mexico
I was blessed to hunt desert bighorn with La Palmosa in November of 2021. At 70 years old, and after 40 years of applying for desert sheep tags, it was finally my chance to pursue a desert ram.
Emilio is a wonderful companion and a first-rate sheep guide. The assistant guides were hard workers with great eyes and a lot of fun to hunt with.
On the third day of the hunt we were glassing the ram of my dreams. After a well-executed stalk and a long, challenging shot. I was able to send out the two-word text I had been dreaming about: MONSTER DOWN!
It was an awesome experience having my son Herb along. The Lord blessed our efforts with a 12-year-old warrior broomed and banged up. Just what I had dreamed about. This ram completes my FNAWS.
La Palmosa has the finest accommodations and dining I have ever experienced on a hunt. The staff is very cordial and friendly. I give them the highest endorsement possible.

SPECIES: Bighorn OUTFITTER: Lost Creek Outfitters GUIDES: Jimmy Owens & Josh Taylor LOCATION: Wyoming
This was a classic horseback hunt. We left from a trailhead at the base of the mountains and rode three hours to a base camp. I had never ridden a horse until two months before this trip, and the second I got on my horse he knew I had no idea what the hell I was doing. It was quite the spectacle. Once we dropped our gear, we headed up to a large bowl at the top of a long ridge. Later that afternoon, we spotted a band of rams with a potential shooter. We stalked the band until we were in position and I missed the shot. Josh Taylor found the band further down the ridge and we were able to set up again. I missed the trophy ram a second time. At that point, I knew my gun was off. Dejected, we headed back down to camp for the night. The next morning we checked my gun and it was 4 MOA high. I made the adjustments and we headed back up to find the ram again. After seeing nothing all morning, the band of rams was spotted in a section of heavy timber. We set up and waited for four hours. I remember it being very hot and we did not have any cover. Mid-afternoon, the band of rams headed up out of the timber on the opposite side from us. We put on a stalk across very treacherous terrain, including two shear cliff faces. We got into a position where we thought the rams would cross, but they did not cross there. We shifted across to another vantage, and just as we started to think the rams had gone over the top of the ridge, the lead ram appeared right above us. He was the shooter we were after. This time I did not miss. After some serious celebration, we caped out the ram and headed back to base camp in the dark. It was the hunt and harvest of a lifetime.

SPECIES: Dall’s Sheep OUTFITTER: Alaska Wild Wind Adventures GUIDES: Cabot Pitts, Brian Griffen LOCATION: Alaska
We took two bush plane fights into the Wrangells out of Tok, AK. We landed in a creek bottom and hiked four miles up into a large drainage under an existing glacier. Brian had a great spot he had used in the past for his spike camps. Each day we hiked up to the top of the drainage ahead of the thermal winds. We saw a good number of rams and ewes each day. On day four, we spotted a legal ram and stalked him for three hours. Once in range, we waited one hour for him to stand and present an ethical shot. I made the shot and we hiked out the next day. This ram booted me from the less <1 Club® .

SPECIES: Dall’s Sheep OUTFITTER: Canol Outfitters GUIDE: Cole Schneider LOCATION: NWT
In early August 2021, I realized a childhood dream of hunting Dall’s sheep in the Mackenzie mountains. The hunt was better than I could have hoped for, and I was fortunate enough to take this incredible ram. To say I was humbled would be an understatement. Thank you to Glenda, Glen, my guide, Cole Schneider, and the rest of the crew at Canol Outfitters for a hunt and experience that I will never forget!

SPECIES: Rocky Mountain Goat OUTFITTER: Lonesome Dove Outfitters GUIDE: Jimmy Paley LOCATION: Alaska
I killed my goat on day one! As soon as we topped out, there they were. The outfitter did a great job scouting/locating them before the hunt and knew how to get us on them.
One shot @ 480 yards rolled him down the mountain!

SPECIES: Low Tatra Chamois OUTFITTER: Point Blank Hunts GUIDE: Low Tatra Slovakia Forestry LOCATION: Slovakia
On day one with fog and snow until 2:00, we should have just stayed in the lodge. We couldn’t see a thing. Once it cleared, however, we started to see chamois. No shot opportunities, but promising.
Day two was beautiful and we started early and hit it hard. After hours of hiking, my guide told me there were two chamois in sight. I snuck up, but only could see one. I lined up, but hesitated while I said, “I only see one!” Michel said, “Shoot, shoot!” I did and he’s mine. Not as big as I hoped, but a representative male 5 ½ years old.
Thanks to Joe Jakab, Point Blank Hunts, for a very professional staff, quality preparations and excellent hunt and tour management!

SPECIES: American Mountain Goat OUTFITTER: Rohrer Bear Camp GUIDE: Brett Watts LOCATION: AK
Great hunt in Kodiak with Life Member OE Burke. We had it all—rain, snow, wind and fog. We hunted hard and harvested two beautiful billies!

SPECIES: Stone’s Sheep OUTFITTER: MacMillan River Adventures GUIDE: Cam Fox LOCATION: Yukon Territories
An outstanding experience with MacMillan River Adventures on my first trip to the Yukon! Cam Fox (guide), Will Goyette (wrangler), and Brady Harang (Huntin’ Fool cameraman) deserve credit for this ram as well. We had an outstanding trip and killed a nice moose also. These guys are the best of the best and I’m blessed to have shared this experience with them. I will never forget it.

SPECIES: American Mountain Goat OUTFITTER: Rohrer Bear Camp GUIDE: Brett Watts LOCATION: AK
My buddy and I had an outstanding hunt on Kodiak with our outfitter Sam Rohrer and guides Brett Watts and Chris Osbekoff. We were blessed with great weather to fly in for the first two hunt days which afforded us the opportunity to see lots of game and cover some ground looking for mature billies. In the final minutes of hunt day two, we each took a billy within seconds of each other. Mine was seven years old, my buddy’s nine. We skinned, deboned, and packed until nearly dawn the next morning, and after a heavy march to a lower lake the next day, we met up with our extract flight. Absolutely epic scenery, company, and quarry. This was the hunt of a lifetime!

SPECIES: Aoudad OUTFITTER: WTHO GUIDE: Casey Sanford LOCATION: TX
Who knew Texas has SERIOUS mountains?! My buddy and I had the opportunity through WTHO to hunt one of the most amazing ranches in far West Texas this spring with Casey Sanford in camp to guide us along. We spotted a band of four rams at first light from the valley floor, all were impressive, but one in particular was unbelievably wide; the decision to pursue was instant. We tailed those rams for over 10 hours, and over two mountains (up-down-up-down) before finally getting the opportunity for a shot just after 5:30 PM. Things went exactly to plan, and after my ram went down, my buddy had the opportunity to take his as well from the same band... both mature old warriors, both over 32”. Phenomenal experience in underrated terrain for an underrated quarry!

SPECIES: Dall’s Sheep OUTFITTER: Ultima Thule GUIDE: Don Martin LOCATION: AK
The highlight of my adventure was getting my ram on the last full day of the hunt. This ram was very elusive and was hunted the year before without being seen (they called him the “ghost ram” since he stayed in the timber a lot). I watched the sheep come out on a bench and encounter a black bear which was a cool experience. Fortunately, the sheep didn’t spook and run off and the bear didn’t chase!
