For Her

By Sarah Watson

If your voice was a song

I would play it on repeat

I would listen until every chord, every note, every sound was buried beneath my bones.

I would wrap your words all over my body like the stickiness of a marshmallow after its come from a burning flame.

I would sandwich you between myself and my heart and melt us together like chocolate

I never even liked s’mores until I tasted yours

When you speak, colors surround me.

Blues fade to indigos and indigos to purples and purples to magentas

They swirl and they twirl like a cosmic Milky Way

And then you say my name. Just a whisper, “Sarah“.

Suddenly I’m an astronaut and I’m spinning in your galaxy.

I continue to fall up up up and away but baby I’ve never felt so grounded.
