Skuas are seabirds in the family S t e r c o r a r i i d a e . The name skua comes from Faroese skúgvur IPA: [ˈskɪkvʊɹ] (Stercorarius skua). Jaeger is derived from the German word Jäger, meaning hunter. Skuas nest on the ground in temperate and Arctic regions and are

l o n g d i s t a n c e m i g r a n t s .


Auks are seabirds of the family Alcidae in the order Charadriiformes. They are superficially similar to penguins due to their black-and-white colours, their upright posture and some of their habits. Nevertheless they are not closely related to the penguins, but rather are an example of

m o d e r a t e convergent evolution.
