A tombola and Guess the Weight of the cake. On Saturday 7th December is Nigel’s annual quiz. Always good fun and usually gets fully booked so enter your team in good time. Phone Nigel 766222 to enter. The bar will be open and Hot Dogs served at half time. £5 per person. Saturday 14th December. Children’s Christmas Party. This is organised by Denise Carle and her team. £5 per child. Please fill in entry form on the back page of this month’s newsletter. Saturday 28th December Plum Pudding Walk. A great way to meet up with friends and neighbours to walk off some of the Christmas indulgence. Mulled Wine to set you off then back for Homemade Soup in the Village Hall. The two activities inked in for next year so far are the Table Tennis Tournament in March and the Garage Sales in April. Let us know anything you would like us to run. All those who attended the Harvest Horkey will want to say congratulations and well done to Sam and Avril, who, with their brilliant team of helpers produced a supper that went far beyond what we are accustomed to. The hall was superbly decorated in harvest country style with the little “Grey Fergie” parked outside. The wide choice of food made it difficult to decide what to eat. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it such a special evening including Leigh, Dave, Harriet, Will, Jenny and Julian who helped with the preparation, the washing up, clearing away and running the bar. The evening brought in a healthy profit of over £500 which will help hall costs. The occasion gave us the opportunity to recognise a village stalwart who is no longer with us. Sheila Hempstead had served on the village hall committee for 42 years and her husband John agreed to unveil the new plaque that has been put up in her memory. A large contingent of the Hempstead family were there to celebrate the occasion.

~NEWS FROM THE CLUBS~ Hilltop Women’s Group We were lucky to have David Webb talk to us about his life as an actor, and especially when he started in 'Hi-de-Hi'. The competition is ' a favourite decoration' Don't forget to book up for the Christmas meal on Tuesday 3 rd December at 7 p.m. at Stoke Ash White Horse. Ring Sue on 766222.

History & Film Group This month we welcome Chris Pratt who will be giving a talk entitled “GHQ Auxiliary Units of WWII”. GHQ Auxiliary Units were formed in June 1940 in preparation for the expected German invasion. They were intended to have two roles: firstly to cause chaos and mayhem amongst the invading forces by sabotage and demolition and secondly, to be the eyes and ears of the army feeding back information on the enemy forces. Being one of the most secret organisations of WWII its existence was not officially recognised until 1992. All are welcome so do join us in the Village Hall at 7.45pm on Wed 20 Nov. Entry Fee £2, including tea/coffee and biscuits. Contact: Pete Davidson 766622 or pjdavidson42@gmail.com

~ W I C K HAM S K E I T H PAR I S H C O U N C I L ~ MINUTES of EXTRAORDINARY PARISH COUNCIL MEETING held MONDAY, 30 SEPTEMBER 2019 at WICKHAM SKEITH VILLAGE HALL Present: Cllrs T Thorogood (Chair), H Bowes (Vice-Chair), B Kemp (Treasurer), R Palmer, T Goodacre (Clerk), Cllr Warboys (MSDC) and 24 members of public Apologies: Accepted from Cllrs K Knights, M Freeman, M Blair and Mr M Mason 1. Welcome: The Chair opened the meeting, welcoming those in attendance. 2. Declaration of Interest: None received. 3. MSDC Planning Consultation Requests: 3.1. DC/19/04251 – Knoll Farm, Daisy Green Lane: Application for planning permission for conversion of existing barn and stable block to form residential dwelling. Councillors raised no objections to conversion, however, the following concerns were raised: • Ownership of land being designated as driveway questioned. • Public Footpath to be properly physically delineated from proposed driveway. • Public Footpath may historically have been known as a "narrow green" due to its width and is not shown on the land registry title plans/boundaries as being part of Knoll Farm. • Proposed TPO for Oak Tree supported by Councillors. • Flooding a concern as mention of possible broken pipe along Daisy Green Lane. 3.2. DC/19/04338 – 1 Grange Road: Application for outline planning – erection of 2 detached dwellings with garages. Councillors supported application, with plot having been included in JLP Consultation submission and included in BMSDC JLP Preferred Options Document. The Parish Council have always supported previous applications and it was felt that there is adequate space for two dwellings, with preference to a mirror image development to give privacy to existing properties. Consideration may need to be given to drainage/run-off water, as Grange Road can be prone to flooding in extreme weather conditions. 3.3. DC/19/04388 – Land adjacent to Bumbledown, Grange Road: Application for outline planning – erection of 2 detached dwellings. Councillors raised no objections to this application, but would request for preservation of tree situated in centre of plot. 3.4. DC/19/04389 – Land opposite 14-17 Grange Road: Application for outline planning – erection of 2 dwellings. Councillors were not in support of application as it extends beyond boundary submitted in first phase of JLP Consultation. Application is for outline permission and concern raised of possible increase in amount of proposed dwellings should approval be given. 3.5. Review of any applications/decisions received after publication of this Agenda. None received. It was agreed that the Parish Council would ask for the cumulative effect of permission being given to the above applications to be considered, due to significant increase in traffic (in village now being classified as a Hamlet), incorrect description of available bus service and poor condition of Grange Road. These applications, together with the recent approval of DC/19/0223, Land south of The Grange, Grange Road, represent potentially 8 new dwellings along Grange Road. Wickham Skeith is recognised as a nonsustainable village and there are not enough amenities to support this number of developments at this given time. 4. Parish Clerk/RFO Vacancy: Interviews conducted and position currently under offer. 5. Matters for next Agenda and Any Other Business: Care Group: The Care Group have requested release of £150 from their fund for donation to Food Bank. 6. Next Meeting: 11 November 2019

Services for November 2019 Every Sunday morning at 9.30am unless otherwise stated 1st, Friday, 1.30pm - Funeral 3rd – All Saints, Holy Communion & Healing – Rev Canon Sally Fogden 10th, 10.45am – Remembrance Sunday – Ven David Jenkins 17th, 10am – 2nd before Advent, Benefice Communion at Cotton – Ven John Cox 25th – Christ the King, Family Service – The Home Team Dec 2nd – Advent Sunday, Holy Communion - Rev Canon Barbara Bilston Please note the two services this month with a different time – 10.45am on Remembrance Sunday so that the Silence at 11am falls within the service and the Benefice service on the 18th when we’ll be at Cotton at 10am. The Remembrance Sunday service will be a non-eucharistic service, in church this year, led by our Archdeacon and all will be welcome to join us for our commemoration. After the Section 12 meeting last month, when the parish/benefice profiles and ‘job description’ were finalised, the post of Rector of the Bacton Benefice is being advertised with the hope that there will be suitable candidates to interview before Christmas. The Monday Morning Group will continue its usual meetings at the Village Hall on 4th & 18th of this month. We now meet at 9.45 for a prayer meeting before coffee at 10.15. You will be made welcome if you would like to join us, either at 9.45 or 10.15. It’s time to start thinking about the new flower & cleaning rota as it needs to be prepared before Christmas so if you would like to volunteer to join, or if you need to be removed from the list, please let Liz Davidson know by December 11th (766622, eadavidson42@gmail.com). We don’t have quite as many volunteers as a few years ago so new people will be welcome. At the moment one or two pairs find themselves doing 3 sessions in a year but ideally its 2 sessions of 2 weeks when you provide fresh flowers for the altar vases in season and do as much cleaning as time and energy allows. It’s not an arduous task, you don’t need to be a regular churchgoer to ‘qualify’ and it helps to keep our lovely building in good order. All help is greatly appreciated.
