MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Holistic health includes the whole family "The whole is more than the sum of its parts." - Aristotle, Metaphysica In holistic health, we speak about treating the whole person. It makes sense. We are complex beings with emotions, thoughts and body parts. Each choice we make affects the whole of our being. We have made multiple choices to be who we are at this very moment. Yuki Sato, In the same vein, whatever health concerns we have, we’ve made Contributing Editor many choices to reach our current state of health. Multiple things come together to make us who we are today. Holistic health can reach beyond our individual bodies. It can also speak of our environment and our communities. Our closest community is our family. Individual families are little communities with their own special rules, needs and values. Each family member fulfills a role. When one family member has health concerns, the whole family experiences changes. Illness can cause stress on the whole family, changing the dynamic of our most tight-knit community. With Community Acupuncture (CA), multiple people are treated in a common room, creating a space of peace and healing. The CA center also becomes its own community where people are invested in getting well and staying that way. For parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers and children, CA is a wonderful opportunity to share this healing with our whole families. When whole families are treated together in CA, individuals are able to focus on their specific needs, while all family members benefit from stress reduction. Self-care is modeled to the youngest members, setting them up for a proactive, empowered approach to their health. The experience allows for positive bonding through relaxation and mindfulness. This broader view of holistic health encourages healthy change at a deep and dynamic level, not only affecting a piece of the whole, but in fact, affecting change for the whole family and community. Q&A with Luke Harrison, Harrison Electric 1.

How long have you been in business, have you always been in the Whittier area, are you family owned and operated, etc.? Harrison Electric was started by my dad in a rental house behind my grandmother's in 1960. My parents moved to west Whittier in 1962, where my dad, Luke Sr., operated the business from his home until he passed away in 1976. My mother, Wanda Harrison, and I were partners in the business until she retired in 1989. We incorporated as Whittier Power Systems, Inc. in 1993. The business was moved to our present location in 1999, located at 11830 Camilla St.

What are a few new and existing services you offer that business owners and residents should know about? We provide traditional electrical services for residential, commercial and industrial customers, as well as new construction, rewiring, tenant improvement wiring, commercial and residential service upgrades and troubleshooting. We also install standby generators for homes and businesses. We have our own high-reach manlifts to service and install parking lot lighting and inside lighting, especially over chairs and pews in churches and auditoriums. Since 2001, we have been involved in the solar industry and have been installing solar power (not hot water) systems, and working with the state and utilities to secure rebates for the systems for our customers. Our newest endeavor is to start providing cleaning and maintenance of solar power systems to keep them producing power at their peak. You will be able to see this service on the web soon under www.Sun-Scrubbers.com. 3.

Tell us about solar panels and how they can improve a home or business. In a residential or business application, solar power can reduce your electric bill by as much as 100%, although for maximum return on investment, a system should be sized by a professional such as us. Getting a solar power system designed, installed, inspected and brought onto the grid is a lot more than just putting the solar components on a building and connecting to power. Our most recent commercial solar installation is for Greg Gunter, owner of Greg's Autobody in Whittier. His system is designed to cover about 100% of his electricity usage. Any residential customer that has an electric bill over $200/month and all commercial customers should call us for a free solar quote and evaluation. 4.

Give us the 3 most important things we should know about Harrison Electric and/ or why we should call YOU first! 1) Although we are still a small company by some standards, we still have our office staff personally answering your phone calls who really care! 2) In this day and age, when companies have ceased to do small service calls to cut overhead, Harrison Electric has maintained service personnel to take care of our customers in the event of emergencies and other urgent electrical needs. 3) Our management has a combined 125+ years of experience in the electrical industry, and 50+ years in the solar industry. Visit our main website at www.HarrisonElectric.com or call (562) 695-8321 to speak with a representative today.
