BONDING BILL: 2 of Ramsey County’s 6 requests make governor’s list FROM PAGE 1A
Century College is seeking $2.5 million for building repairs and $5.5 million to build an expansion that would house a new engineering and technology center. District 624 is seeking over $17 million to build a “community achievement center” that would house school district early childhood and adult basic education programs as well as community service partners such as the food shelf, county social services and a health care clinic. According to Wiger, Dayton is supportive of funding for a system to use
Mississippi River water to augment White Bear Lake, but he is waiting for a final cost estimate. Ramsey County made six funding requests, including $20.5 million to help fund reconfiguration of the I-694 and Rice Street interchange and $2 million each for continuation of transit planning for the Rush Line and Riverview corridors. Only two of the county's requests are included in Dayton's proposal: $2 million for a snow-making system at Battle Creek Regional Park and $1 million to the Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority to design railroad improvements to fix a bottleneck east of downtown St. Paul.
Washington County's two requests for transit corridor planning in the southern portion of the county also didn't make the governor's wish list. With the exception of replacing two deteriorating bridges, Dayton's proposal includes no road or transit projects. The governor contends other funding sources should be used for transportation. Other north metro proposals that made the governor's list include facility maintenance at the Stillwater and Oak Park Heights prisons and $33 million to build a new state emergency operations center in Arden Hills.
