Hello Friends, It is with great sadness that we complete our final Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine. It has been a labor of love and a joy to bring to you, but as they say eventually all good things must come to an end. We thank you all for your support and we hope these issues have given you inspiration and the push to try new things. A huge thank you to Ann Vento for all of her hard work and dedication to making this publication possible. And thank you to all of the amazing designers at Whimsy for sharing your gorgeous creations! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and a very happy and prosperous new year. Happy reading from all your friends at Whimsy Stamps!

- Denise Dear crafty friends, This issue marks the last issue of the Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine. Despite how much fun and rewarding it has been to work on this wonderful project, we have decided to focus our efforts on other endeavors. I would like to thank those who have supported us throughout every step of the way. You have made my dreams of creating a printed magazine come true and I can not thank you all enough. A special thank you goes out to Denise who did all the work on this issue - you are a superwoman. I hope you enjoy this wonderful holiday edition. As always, the Whimsy design team and magazine staff have created some inspiring work to help you get started on those holiday cards. Enjoy the issue, and again, thank you for everything!

{recycled} Every year I end up having to buy a few Christmas cards to send out because I didn’t have time do enough for everyone on my list. And every year I have a few extra ones. Here I will show a super quick way to get a set of cards done and use up those left over store bought cards. I am using Whimsy Prints that have already been colored and die cut. First I have layered my topper with dimensional foam squares on top of a doily. Then also popped up that doily with squares. Next I have added some bling swirls..

Pre-colored Digis

{live, love}

A tutorial by Janette Garcia

Here is a good example of doing your best from what you have and liking the outcome. I only have a black and white printer and so I have printed, Kendall (pre-colored image), digital image in black and white then added color with Copic Markers. With the image being pre-colored it already has shading; so for an easy and quick result I am using only a total of 5 markers. I have chosen colors that are on the light but bright side.

October 2013, Issue 14

For the skin I am using E00, and R20 for the blush. Next I have done the hair E 31 and coloring in the direction of the hair.

Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

30

October 2013, Issue 14

Next used R43 and B32, I have added a second layer of color where the shading is. Then I have outlined the image with G00, G000. Last I have fussy cut the image and added it to a gift card holder. This is a great way to use pre-colored images or changing the colors to suite your project.

Bottle Gift Tags A tutorial by Janette Garcia

I will show you how to make a bottle tag. This is a great way to gift a bottle of wine, champagne, or tequila. This size will fit many bottles but you can also adjust the sizes to fit any bottle.

{christmas wish} Tag created by Janette Garcia; Whimsy Stamps Products: Raindrop Echo-Holiday Mini Letter Seals & Layered Snowflake Dies, Time for TeaUnder the Mistletoe - Girl, TLC- Pedestal Tag 1 Die; Papers: Michelle Roos- Winter Frost, PTI-Stampers Select Cardstock, PTI-Cardstock; Ink/Coloring Medium: MementoBlack, Copic Markers; Embellishments: Want to Scrap-Pearl Swirls, Stash-bling, Doily, Twine; Tools/Other: Cuttlebug, Score Board, Hand Punch

Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

44

October 2013, Issue 14

Step 1: You will start with a heavy 8 ½ x 3 ¼ card stock for your tag base.

Step 2: Score and fold at 2 ½

Step 3: Next you will need two designer paper panels for the tag base. 3 x 2 ¼ and 3 x 5 ¾ I have used coordinating papers. Adhere these to the tag base.

© Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

45

October 2013, Issue 14

Step 4: Next I have made a scalloped border for the tag hole. First use the 1 ½ cirle hand punch on to designer paper.

Step 5: Then using a 2 inch scallop hand punch I have punched through the designer paper guiding myself by turning the punch upside down. This is a really quick and easy way to get a thin border.

Step 6: I have punched a hole on the tag with the same 1 ½ circle punch. Then added the scalloped border. I have also rounded the top corners of the tag and small panel of designer paper. Last is the fun part of decorating the tag.

Product Review A review of Beacon Zip Dry Glue by Deb Routledge Beacon Adhesives very generously gave Whimsy some of their various glues to try out prior to our CHA trip. I was skeptical at first about using liquid glue again. In the past I have experienced paper puckering with any liquid glues I had used. I decided to try it on a small mini album where I had to glue paper onto board. I was very pleasantly surprised by the results. It is strong and absolutely no puckering. By the time I came to make this larger album about our recent CHA trip I was very confident in using the glue. It is very strong so there was no fear of anything falling off in the mail and I knew my pages would be super smooth. In the package you get a bottle of glue and a separate nozzle which makes it easy to use in smaller areas. You keep hold of the separate little white cap and replace it after use. The dried up glue is easy to remove from the nozzle once dried in readiness for the next time you need it. I keep a dressmaking pin handy in case I need to reopen the nozzle while working on a larger project. I am a total convert. This is my new go to glue and I am so happy I had the opportunity to try this for myself. I highly recommend this glue for any paper craft projects!

A review by Shannah Bartle If you love card making, but don’t always have time to stamp and color a gorgeous feature image, then Whimsy Stamps has the perfect solution… “Whimsy Prints”! Whimsy has chosen some of their most adorable rubber stamps, had them expertly colored, and then printed on high quality coated cardstock - die cut and ready for you to simply add to your cards or other projects! There are 10 sets to choose from; 5 sets by Crissy Armstrong (beautifully colored by Crissy herself!), and 5 sets by Elisabeth Bell (fabuously colored by Whimsy DT member Simonne Clay). Each set contains 3 each of 4 designs (12 total per pack) so plenty to play with.

Since we are coming up to the most frantic time of year on the card maker’s calendar, and armed with a pack of Whimsy Prints ‘Winter’s Magic’ by Crissy Armstrong, I thought I’d give them a trial to see how they could help me speed up those Christmas cards!

{friends}

Firstly, I chose “Snowshoe Bunny”, and set about my usual card-making style, adding designer papers, die cut frames, and embellishments. Using a ‘Whimsy Print’ definitely cut down the overall time without all that coloring!

For my next project I wanted to just play with different techniques like die cutting and fussy cutting to make sure Whimsy Prints stood up ok. Using “Snowflake Fairy Princess”, I die cut a closer circle (it is already die cut in a circle but I wanted it smaller), leaving part of the image outside the circle to fussy cut around. I then edged the circle with Ranger “ICE” Stickles, and mounted on a Nestabilities Picot Circle. (See page 57 for the project tutorial)

October 2013, Issue 14

{Season’s greetings} For my last project, I decided to really see how quick I could make a card… I used “Cardinal in Winter” for a super-quick, easily whipped-up, production-line-capable card. I couldn’t believe how quick from start to finish this card was! With a few simple designs and a couple of packs of Whimsy Prints you really could knock through that Christmas list in no time!

Card by Shannah Bartle; Whimsy Stamps Products: “Winter’s Magic” Whimsy Prints, “Holiday Notables 2” and Notables 2 Dies” by Raindrop Echo Designs; Paper: C/S – SU ‘Pear Pizzazz’, CM ‘Dark Blue’; Ink / Colouring Medium: Memento Tuxedo Ink; Embellishments: SU ‘Pear Pizzazz’ Seam Binding, Ranger ‘Stardust’ Stickles, Kaisercraft Rhinestones; Wild Orchid Crafts ' ' Roses, Kaisercraft Pearls; Tools / Other: Cuttlebug and Embossing Mat.

There were no problems at all with either die cutting or trimming the Whimsy Prints card, and the Stickles adhered well despite the smooth feel of the card. Not that I could imagine the need to add to the beautiful coloring on these gorgeous Whimsy Prints, but just in case you wanted to add your own flair, both Copics and Prisma pencils seem to apply well to the Whimsy Prints card. I really do love coloring, and I will always prefer to feel like I’ve added my own personal interpretation of the image on my card. But I’m not very confident in my coloring yet, so I really do spend a lot of time deciding colors and working out where my shading should go. So I have to tell you, with the thought of all those cards to make before Christmas, I can easily see myself grabbing a pack (or two, or three!) of Whimsy Prints to speed up the process! …And for all those other last-minute cards you need for the rest of the year too! ;) © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

1. Gather supplies as shown.

2. Choose two matching pieces of “Hummingbird and Butterflies” 6x6 papers by Michele Roos, and punch Fiskars ‘Effervescence’ border along opposite sides of both sheets. 3. Score, from border to border, every ½ inch.

4. Fold back and forth to create ‘fan fold’. 5. & 6. While folded together find centre and punch a hole (this only has to be big enough to push your twine through). My paper hole punch won’t punch through many layers so I just folded over a few at a time.

7. Hold both pieces of folded and punched paper together and thread twine through the centre holes. 8. Tie to keep centre secure. 9. and 10. Open fan around centre point joining each piece with double sided tape, until circle is complete.

11. Ease around with fingers until even. 12. Die cut ‘Snowflake Fairy Princess’ Whimsy Print with smaller circle die and frame with Navy Nestabilities Picot Circle. 13. Embellish with Ranger “ICE” Stickles around edge and on snowflakes. 14. Adhere image to centre of project with mounting foam. 15. Add twine loop to top… and hang on your Christmas tree!

Merging Digital Images A tutorial by Delphine

I always start by choosing the character I feel like colouring and want to put center stage first – here Classic Santa by Crissy Armstrong.

I now want to fill the space behind my character. I start building my background horizontally, either by using a pre-made scene or by adding elements and really creating my own. Here, I am going to use winter elements from Make It Crafty and add Make It Crafty Winter Fence. I adapt the size to match Santa.

To really fill the background, I add the Winter Fence again to the left of Santa.

Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

68

October 2013, Issue 14

Now, I have to imagine what is behind the big fence and in the distance to give some depth to the scene. I add the Little Village Scene, which I crop to keep only the houses. I like how they are on a slant, but it is possible to slightly rotate the image to straighten them.

Once the “horizontal background is done, I like framing my character by adding elements on the sides. In this case to the left, I use the Large Pine Tree digi stamp to fill the space and crop it a little. Tip: To give interest to the scene and to make it look like a natural close up, it is important to cut elements and not leave them as whole.

The background is still a little empty, so I add another tree behind Santa, the same one, but re-sized smaller.

Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

69

October 2013, Issue 14

Still filling the left side, I use Santa’s Sleigh which I crop to only keep the front part visible, which will give the impression Santa has just got off and the scene created is a close up.

Last, I add a thin black frame to see what my scene will look like once it is cut and make sure I am happy with it. If necessary, I move elements a little to adjust.

Then I print, colour, and cut my image just inside the black frame.

A FEW MORE TIPS… *To build your scene, simply think – character, background, sides. *You can use only parts of your digi images, you don’t have to keep the whole images. Crop, resize, rotate… there are lots of possibilities! *Play with the sizes and keep in mind what the proportions should be like to reflect reality. *To crop your images, you can either crop and add to your scene or add then crop. If I know I want to keep most of the image, I first add it then crop. If I only want to use a small part of the image, I crop it, then add it and make adjustments. *Also be careful not to overfill the scene. The space I have left on Santa’s right hand side helps to balance it all out. If I had have added something there it would have looked too busy.

Coloring Snow with Copics Coloring Pleats with Copics Creating Stencils with Shapeology Dies and more

October 2013, Issue 14

Tutorial by Iris Wiechmann With the holiday season approaching quickly we are all soon in to make Christmas and Winter cards again, which makes coloring snow almost inevitable. In this Copic coloring tutorial I would like to show you how to color snow in 3 different shades - blue, grey and a vintage beige color.

Blue - cool white I use the cool blue tones for snow when I want a crisp icy look. For coloring snow with blue hue's I use the following Copic markers: B0000, B000, B00 and C1

I start with my darkest blue which is B00. I only color the shadows lightly. Don't add too much color you want to keep the bright white as your highlight area. The next marker is B000. I go slightly over the edges of the B00. Don't blend out the color too much into the white! With B0000 soften the edges even more.

Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

75

October 2013, Issue 14

With C1 add some soft darkest shadows, e.g. in corners etc. When I'm done laying down color I use my blender pen to slightly soften the colors. I just don't like hard lines on my snow. You can omit this step if you like more crisp /hard lines.. I work from the bright white area towards the blue. This way I wont pull the color into the white highlight! Always work light handed when doing this.

Grey - darker/neutral white For the more neutral white I use the cool greys from Copic: C00, C0, C1, C3

Starting with the darkest color just lay down the deepest shadow. Remember don't put down too much and always work light handed. Now add the second color, C1

Start softening the edges using Co and continue with C00. Just a bit and don't drag the color to much into the white to keep enough highlights! To give it a softer look use the blender pen again very carefully working from white towards the grey.

76

October 2013, Issue 14

Beige - vintage/warm/dirty white For a warmer white/beige or a vintage shabby chic look I prefer to use the following colors: W00, W1, E40, E42

Like with the other two colors before start with the darkest color E42. Continue with E40

Add some deeper tones in the shadow areas using W1 Slightly soften the edges with W00. Keep in mind to not work too far into the white!

Again use the blender for a softer look.

Tutorial by Janette Garcia You can make tabs out of any symmetrical shape. I often use punches or die cuts to make tabs for my smash books. Here is a quick tutorial on how this can be done. First you must cut out the shape; any symmetrical shape will work. I am using the *NEW Notables 7 Die and heavy kraft cardstock; cutting it by running it with my cuttlebug.

Next you will need to score down the center of the shape. I just eye balled it on the score board.

Fold and your tab is done. I like adding these to my smash books but you can add them on cards, tags, scrapbook layouts or any other craft. You can emboss, or stamp on tabs or make from designer paper for added interest.

Stencils

A tutorial by Shannah Bartle

I absolutely love my dies and the fabulous range at Whimsy Stamps keeps me wanting more. But often when I throw out a die cut ‘negative’ I wonder what I might have been able to create with it. Sooo… I decided to delve into the ‘other side of the die’ and tried “stenciling” with Whimsy dies. Here’s what I came up with… Supplies Needed: ● Paper ● Whimsy Shapeology Dies ● Ink ● Sponging Tool ● Die Cutting Machine

Die cut 1 x Large and 2 x Small ‘Whimsy Layered Snowflake Dies’ from a piece of scrap cardstock (approx. 2 ¾ x 6”) in an arrangement you’d like to stencil on your card. Cut another piece of white cardstock 2” x 5 ¼ “and adhere behind die cut snowflakes with removable tape. © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
