FEBRUARY 2024

FAMILY NEWSLETTER

SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE Dear CCSD21 Families and Community Members, Welcome to February! And thank you for all of your patience as we dealt with both inclement weather and ACCESS testing. We have a number of updates to share with you all this month, many of which can be found in the next few pages. First and foremost, we are happy to announce that during its January meeting, our Board of Education approved a number of bids for construction projects to take place across the district this summer. These include the final library and media center renovations at Holmes Middle School and Longfellow, Poe and Whitman Elementary Schools, and new playgrounds for Frost, Kilmer and Poe Elementary Schools. We also officially entered an intergovernmental agreement with Elk Grove Village-based Community Consolidated School District 59 for shared services concerning a new director of school safety and security. We also named Danny Malik of the Arlington Heights Police Department to that role. Other highlights: ● Stephanie Stallman will officially become the principal of Poe on July 1, succeeding Christy Campbell, who is retiring after 12 years! ● Congratulating Anastasia Netzel of London Middle School and Crystal Jimenez of Field Elementary School for their recent honor as the Illinois Principals Association’s (North Cook Region) Middle School and Elementary School Principals of the Year. We are really looking forward to February being a very successful and strong month for the district, and we’ll see you in March! Respectfully, Dr. Michael Connolly Superintendent of Schools Watch the full video message here: Message from the Superintendent – February 2024 IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER… ● ● ●

● Take the 5Essentials Survey: Students, teachers and parents across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide survey, which is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. Read more about the survey here (scroll down). To take the survey, visit this link. ● Coming Up - Illinois Assessment of Readiness: Our students take federally required assessments every spring to help us understand how they are growing academically when compared with their peers across the state. The IAR assesses students in grades 3-8 in both English language arts and math. Read more about the IARs here. ● Please help us by taking the Panorama SEL Survey: Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone. We are therefore asking for feedback from students in grades 3-8 via an online survey they will complete at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
