Wheel Farm Business Park Westfield, Hastings, East Sussex TN35 4SE

W

heel Farm Business Park provides quality rural workspace in both redundant former agricultural, and purpose built industrial buildings. These are designed to enhance the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in which Westfield is situated. The business park is based in a former farm yard on the edge of the village of Westfield, near Battle and Hastings, East Sussex. Conversions started in 1986 with the first of two redundant poultry houses, followed by a concrete framed barn in 1989/90, and subsequent new build in 1991, 1994, 2000 and 2002. There is a total of approximately 40,000 sq ft, of which 15,000 sq ft are

conversions, in eight buildings with unit sizes varying from 900 sq ft to 7,000 sq ft. There are a wide variety of businesses on site with over 60 people employed, the vast majority of whom are local, a significant number coming from the village of Westfield itself. Wheel Farm has three phase electricity, mains drainage and is broadband enabled. There is more than adequate parking together with plenty of space to unload vehicles and turn round easily. The business park adjoins farmland with extensive footpaths, ponds and tree planting so making for a very pleasant environment to work in. It is also close to the village with all its shops.

Businesses tend to stay at Wheel Farm for a number of years - with the average length of time being about eight years. Since 1987 only six businesses have left (three retirements and two downsized and 1 bought out). Many businesses have expanded into bigger units on site rather than move away. The Rother District Draft Planning Strategy includes provision for further space at Wheel Farm to “provide further local employment opportunities on a well-screened site, adjoining existing parking for recent Bl development and neatly contained by the stream and proposed footpath diversion“. This offers a further 11,000 sq ft of new space and be a logical rounding off of the site.

LITTLEDOWN CHRISTMAS TREE FARM Main Road, A28, Westfield, Nr Hastings, E. Sussex. TN35 4QE Tel 01424 753413 07734 210508 www.littledownfarmchristmastrees.co.uk Christmas is coming soon and it isn’t the same without a real British Christmas tree. There’s nothing the same as coming home on a cold winters night opening the front door to the aroma of a real Christmas tree. This tradition has been going on for hundreds of years, and brings back happy memories and excitement for children and of course adults. We all love the experience of choosing a tree and of course deciding how big, or how small you want your tree. Of course you need a large selection and Little Down Christmas Tree Farm has a full range to choose from. Not only trees from 2ft - 45ft, but also 6 different varieties with different characteristics. Little Down Farm has been voted one of the best places to choose your Christmas tree in the United Kingdom and has been crowned Champion Tree Grower by the British Christmas Trees Growers Association.

008_November008.indd 1

Little Down Farm credentials include ‘official supplier to the BBC’, 10 Downing Street, London and other high profile businesses. For the last 20 years they have been working hard to produce trees that are second to none. In the last 12 months there has been a lot of ploughing, cultivating fencing, planting, pruning and shaping trees ready for you this Christmas. This season don’t compromise by going to a normal retailer who has no control on the freshness of your Christmas tree. Come to a grower where you can see the trees growing in the wild, trees which have been managed, grown and carefully harvested. All trees harvested are replaced in the Spring. Of course when you choose your tree, you will get help if you need it, together with professional advice. Your tree will be netted and if you have a stand we will trim the bottom to fit your stand - free of

charge of course. We can also supply a wooden stand free of charge (for trees up to 7.5ft). We have a fleet of 4x4 vehicles on the farm so we can deliver your tree even if the weather gets difficult. Come and choose your tree from us 2ft 45ft, cut, pot grown, (not potted). We look forward to seeing you. As What’s On Magazine went to print Little Down Farm had been put forward as a finalist in the UK Champion Tree Grower competition.

Antiques and Vintage

Gallery 16 offer beautiful antique and vintage glass items which make beautiful, interesting and very individual gifts, especially for the coming festive season. You will also find Arts & Crafts, Art Deco furniture, and a wide range of English Whitefriars glass including vases and bowls. Plus they always have good quality sets of wine and champagne drinking glasses in stock, usually Belgian and French. (Prices range from £25 -£500). If you are thinking more traditional then the Max Benjamin range of candles are great quality, reliable gift. (Averaging Around £25).

It is good fun and very rewarding in many ways! Buying used furniture from places such as chartiy shops, car boot sales (or even the pages of Friday-Ad) means you are avoiding production of a new item. New items would incur more tree felling and costs for the transport of timber, the majority of which is from Asia and Europe. Discarding a usable item would also have an impact on the environment. Even if a piece looks like it is dying, there are a number of products on the market to completely upcycle/revamp a good quality item. You should decide what you would like this item to look like and how it will fit into your home. you may change your mind as the item evolves and shows its beauty and potential. Remember, some items will lend themselves to another use. This is always fun and requires you to think outside of the box. you can end up with a really cool item that friends want to source or copy.

SkinPulse Baby E:Motion also e-motion- Technology, Fast & Effective

At the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea. 7pm. English new wave/ synthpop act, OMD, developed a strong fan base in the 80s, before returning to the fore in 2006, selling over 40 million records worldwide. 01424 229111.

e-motion technology is a breakthrough in the safe & effective delivery of SHR light energy in the treatment of both hair reduction and skin rejuvenation. Incorporating a unique “wanding” action the clinician will repeatedly “sweep” the SHR hand piece over the target area whilst delivering the fast-pulse, low-energy light directly into the skin. There is no discomfort or epidermal damage to clients, even in for the darkest skin types.

Vascular/Rosacea

It is possible to treat this unattractive skin condition cosmetically. This is done by shooting a controlled light pulse onto the affected area. The light pulse is absorbed in the dark-red, oxygen-rich blood of the vessel by the haemoglobin and converted into heat. This causes a sudden heating of the vessel, which clots the blood and “welds” the vessel shut. The body’s lymphatic system breaks down the coagulated blood into its constituent parts and transports them away naturally.

Skin Rejuvenation

The gentle treatment offered by the devices from Cosmedico Medical Systems stimulates the formation of new collagen fibres. This has a visible smoothing effect on lines. The treatment stimulates the skin cells to start producing skin-tautening collagen and elastin again. The result is healthy, young and fresh-looking skin.

Pigmentation

Benign skin pigmentations can be treated very efficiently using IPL or IPL/RF technology. This involves exposing excessive pigments to highly energetic intensive pulsed light. The pigment change is shed bit by bit in the form of tiny skin flakes.

Acne

Treating acne with IPL or IPL/RF technology is all about fighting the propioni bacteria that cause the inflammation and reducing the size of the sebaceous glands and the quantity of sebum they produce.

The Stag Inn on All Saints Street dates back to the sixteenth

century, with oak beams and a huge inglenook fireplace. You can sit in the warmth of our new log burners and enjoy a glass of mulled wine or cider, or treat yourself to a glass of excellent Malbec - one of a number of specially chosen wines on offer. If you fancy a night off cooking dinner, why not let chef Log Sudiarta feed you? A menu of traditional Balinese food mixed with European specials (often with a little twist) offers something for the adventurous as well as comforting classics. Log’s fish curry has acquired legendary status, and you won’t find a better steak burger in Hastings. Sunday roast (vegan option included) by the fire is a must in the chilly winter months. If a drink and some music is more your thing, get yourself down to one of the Stag’s music sessions, when the front bar fills with local musicians and customers having a rip-roaring time singing, strumming and fiddling. Tuesday is traditional folk, Wednesday has an American bluegrass tinge, and every Thursday is a singaround in the back bar; acapella singing with an occasional instrument - heaven, heartache and harmony.

Brace yourselves for another blustery one . . . Maintaining your trees, and keeping ahead of the game, by having them professionally looked after, could prevent them from being damaged or lost in the stormy weather we have to come. We would advise consumers if they are worried about any of the trees in their garden, to contact a professional before the stormy weather takes hold. Care in Your Own Home

adfield Home Care specialises in the care of older people in the community and aims to provide a reliable, individually tailored service which promotes independence and enables people to live at home for as long as possible. Director, Samuel Holmes, is a qualified social worker and established the company after identifying a need for a local home care provider which listens to its clients, understands their hopes for the future, and delivers a service which meets their expectations. Samuel explained “Although my career was tremendously rewarding, I repeatedly encountered older people struggling to find good quality home care which can result in social isolation, unnecessary visits to hospital or even admission to residential care. My experience is that this is not what older people want and was the inspiration behind launching Radfield Home Care in the area where I grew up” Samuel added, “We support people to meet far more than just basic practical needs and believe good quality home care has the potential to provide the opportunity to develop

real relationships, meet friends, and maintain a presence in the community. Our carers are therefore selected on their ability to be friendly and sociable as well as having the capacity to care. Our thorough induction programme also ensures our carers are competent to work independently and maintain the high standards expected of them”. The services Radfield Home Care provide are completely flexible and can offer short term support after a hospital admission, respite for family or carers, help to access the community, or ongoing daily care. Samuel went onto say, “We never deliver care until we have met our clients and carry out a thorough assessment to identify individual strengths and needs. This careful process prioritises peoples wishes and enables us to develop a bespoke care plan for everyone.” Radfield Home Care Hastings and Rother services Hastings, Bexhill, St Leonards, Battle, Rye and all surrounding villages. They can be contacted on 01424 559 202, email hastings. rother@radfieldhomecare.co.uk or via their website at www.radfieldhomecare.co.uk

Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land was set up in 2000 to help some of the thousands of donkeys facing overwork and cruelty in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Our programme consist of three key areas; Firstly our free veterinary clinics which operates to around 600 working donkeys, mules and horses on both sides of the Palestinian border, are offered wound treatment, hoof trimming, vaccinations and much more every month. Secondly through education and support, our aim is also to improve the lives of the owners who themselves suffer terrible poverty and rely entirely on their animal to earn a basic living. Thirdly, and based in Israel, the sanctuary is home to 240 donkeys all of whom have been abandoned or miss-treated in some way. Now with a home for life they can enjoy their surroundings and new friends. We receive no government help and rely totally on public donations in order to support the vital work we do. To raise money and awareness for Safe Haven there are many things that you can do: Adopting a donkey makes for a great gift or treat yourself – comes with certificate, picture and cuddly donkey, purchase our merchandise online – our Christmas cards are now in stock! Join our FRIENDS OF THE DONKEYS GROUP, or find us at the various events we hold throughout the year. Visit www.safehaven4donkey.org for more information or call 01444 470128.
