During this unprecedented time, creating art is one of the things that is a pleasing distraction. Spotlight’s Artistic Director Jacqui Kaese returned early from vacation, self-isolated for two weeks and set up the schools Zoom Schedule in mid-March. With heavy hearts, but with clear minds, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Dragon boat festival this year. The well-being of our dragon boat community is of primary importance to us. We believe that the outbreak will not be contained in time for our festival this year, July 10 to 12, 2020. We also recognize that social distancing will be impossible to achieve at our event. We hope the cancellation will allow all paddlers to focus on being kind to others, maintaining a healthy lifestyle in

accordance with directives, and reducing the impact of the economic downturn. We look forward to a successful Festival with the same theme - Dragons Of The World - next year, July 9, 10,11 2021. Best wishes to all and thank you for your understanding and your support. See you in 2021! Heiko Behn, Chair - Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society nanaimodragonboat.com

KOOL TOYS for “KIDS” from 1 to 92 Now that we have been dealing with Covid-19 a while now and are slowly getting ready to go back to the “new norm”, it’s time to start thinking about what to do with summer being just around the corner. It is not going to be a normal summer like in the past, we will need to take precautions about almost everything we do. Should that be a reason for not enjoying the beautiful weather and having fun outside? I do not think so! We will just need to tweak what we do and how we do it. There are many things we can still do and enjoy. How about challenging your kids to a hula hoop contest, we have some beautiful iridescent hula hoops that just shine in the sun! We have just received some new skipping ropes where you can choose either squishy handles or ‘drop dot’ handles. Both help to activate your senses when you squeeze them to jump the rope making it even more fun! If you venture out to the beach or river to cool off, do not forget to take some buckets and shovels etc. With the sandcastle contest in Parksville being cancelled this year, you can test your family to see how big and high you can build your castle! We have many different buckets and shovels in stock, even some that make castles when you flip the bucket over. Spending a lot of time outside during the summer means that you need to use sunscreen. We have

just received a new shipment of assorted glitter sunscreen, after sun care and SPF 50 lip gloss. This was developed by a mom in the U.S. who wanted a good sunscreen for her children that was safe to use. Remember if you are building a sandcastle, flying a kite, or just enjoying the sun, take care of yourself and your family we will get through this together!
