Rocketman CERT tbc Starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, Stephen Graham, Gemma Jones Directed by Dexter Fletcher (UK/USA)

Reginald Dwight took up piano lessons at the age of seven and four years later won a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. But he was really a fan of Elvis and Bill Haley & His Comets, and it was this passion that was to steer him towards a career in rock’n’roll. In 1972 he changed his name to Elton John... Although for technical reasons he never got a credit on Bohemian Rhapsody, Dexter Fletcher actually directed much of that film (after the original director, Bryan Singer, was dismissed) and high hopes are resting on his new musical biography. The screenplay is by Lee Hall, whose script for Billy Elliot was nominated for an Oscar. Released Fri 24 May

Talk about loyal. Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins) believed only the best of her boyfriend and it wasn’t until many years after his conviction that she conceded Ted Bundy (Zac Efron) was the killer of at least 30 young girls and women. This is the eighth time the killer has been portrayed on the big screen. Released Fri 3 May Bailey, a dog of many colours and, indeed, breeds, finds his soul moving on in this unexpected sequel to the episodic and frightfully saccharine A Dog’s Purpose (2017). Well, the first film did make over $200million.

Before he went on to write The Lord Of The Rings, John Tolkien was an orphan who found himself something of an outcast at Oxford. But he also formed a friendship with some of his fellow outsiders, a bond that was to inspire his creation of Middle-Earth.
