The trails of rockets can be seen on the skyline of Kyiv, Ukraine, in this view from an apartment building, taken by Yuri Safonov, an adoption agency worker who helped the Van Staveren family to adopt their son Nathan back in 2003. The family has stayed in touch with him, and throughout the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

The damages to this apartment building were visible on Saturday morning in Kyiv, after rocket attacks and bombings hit the city Friday night.

This photo of fire on the roof of an apartment building was sent to local resident Kym Van Staveren by Yuri Safonov, showing a building only a couple of blocks from his in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Van Staveren family has stayed in touch with Yuri, as he helped them with the adoption of their son Nathan, and he has kept them informed about the situation since Russia launched their invasion on Thursday.
