Team Canada is currently ranked sixth overall for medals at the 2022 Olympics with two gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals, according to the medal count as of Tuesday morning. Gold Medal Ivanie Blondin, Valerie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann won gold medals in the women’s team pursuit for Canada’s first Olympic medal in the event in 16 years. They did it by posting an Olympic record time of 2:53.44 in the final against Japan. The Canadians had trailed the Japanese for the entire race, but were closing the gap as they lowered their lap times in their last few trips around the oval. With half a lap to go, the deficit was just 0.32 of a second. But then Nana Takagi lost her footing on the final turn and fell, making the victory a no-doubter for Blondin, Maltais and Weidemann. The Canadians bettered their time from the semifinal by 1.52 seconds. Silver Medals Short track speed skater Steven Dubois receives a silver medal in the men’s 1500m event during the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games on February 10. Sitting at the back of the unusually large pack for the first few laps of the 13-anda-half lap race, Dubois cleanly made his way up to sixth place by lap five and then made another move on the following lap to get into second just behind South Korean Hwang Daeheon. Dubois held onto that spot for the rest of the race and just edged out Semen Elistratov of ROC in a photo finish, by 0.013 of a second, for the silver medal. Snowboarder Eliot Grondin receives a silver medal in men’s snowboard cross on February 10. The big final came down to a photo finish, which showed that Grondin was just beaten to the line by the front tip of the board of Austrian Alessandro Haemmerle. Italian Omar Visintin took the bronze. At 20 years, Grondin is the youngestever Olympic medallist in men’s snowboard cross. Long track speed skater Isabelle Weidemann receives a silver medal in the women’s 5,000m event on February 11. Skating in the fifth of six pairings for the 12 and

a half lap race, Weidemann looked smooth and relaxed through the first 3,000 metres, keeping her lap times in the high 31-second / low-32 second range for a nice even pace. When she crossed the line, she stopped the clock at 6:48.18 to take the lead, guaranteeing her a medal with just two skaters to go. Bronze Medals Snowboarder Meryeta O’Dine receives a bronze medal for women’s snowboard cross on February 9. Alpine skier James Crawford won bronze in the men’s combined event on February 10.
