Celebrating Weyburn’s new Spark Centre

Mayor cuts the ribbon to open Credit Union Spark Centre

Members of Weyburn city council gathered to hold the ribbon for the cutting by Mayor Marcel Roy in the middle, during the opening ceremonies for the Credit Union Spark Centre on Saturday morning. From left are councillors Ryan Janke, Laura Morrissette, Jeff Richards, Mayor Roy, Mel Van Betuw, Dick Michel and John Corrigan. Following the ceremonies, the rec and culture centre was open with activities and events throughout the day, including the Culture Days events and displays.

The art of Ukrainian egg decorating explained

A small group of visitors listened as artist Anastasia Shved explained the art of Ukrainian egg painting, at her display for Culture Days on Saturday at the Credit Union Spark Centre. The event was held as part of the grand opening for the Spark Centre, with a variety of activities, events and displays held throughout the day. In the background is the table of works by the Weyburn Wood Carvers group.

Giving guidance at community mural project

Linda Aitken of the Weyburn Arts Council had a few tips for Sandra Mackenzie, as she painted the colour red onto the community mural project in the new art gallery at the Credit Union Spark Centre. The paint-by-number project of a mural design created by Jonnae Haupstein was part of the Culture Days events held throughout the day Saturday.

Visitors to the CU Spark Centre came by to look through the selection of handbags, scarves and jewelry, set up for sale by the Weyburn Rotary Club as a fundraiser event on Saturday at Culture Days. The Rotary Club also had their silent auction items set up for the first day of bids, as they were set up in the Legacy Park School gym.

Review Photo 5968 – Greg Nikkel Singer Karissa Hoffart and her band performed a concert on Mainil Field as the final event for the opening day of the Credit Union Spark Centre on Saturday evening. Residents were invited to sit on blankets on the sports field as she sang, a final event to wrap up a full day of activities for the new culture-recreation centre for the City of Weyburn.
