Gail Nykoluk

Gail Anne Nykoluk, late of Red Deer, Alberta, born February 29, 1956, passed away with family at her side on August 28, 2021 after a short and aggressive battle with cancer. Gail was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. She, and her twin brother Garry, were the youngest of the seven children born to Ralph and Jean Mokelki. Gail grew up helping on the family farm and attended school in Goodwater, Saskatchewan. Gail was excellent at any sport during her school days, but she especially loved fastball. She played well into adulthood including on a competitive ladies team in Weyburn. Friendships and loyalty were always important to her. If she was your friend, you knew she had your back. After high school, she spent the next 17 years living around the Maxim, SK area. Gail had four children; Tara, Kurt, Andrea, and Alisha and was very involved in the farming community. Gail enjoyed working off the farm as a Care Aid at Souris Valley Mental Health Hospital. In 1991, Gail made the move to Lloydminster to find work. She moved herself and her children and took up employment at the provincial upgrader. This is where she would meet the love of her life, Wayne, and they would spend the next four years living in Lloydminster. In 1995 they relocated to Central Alberta, spending the next 26 years in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer areas. Gail worked many years in the area as a waitress, and this is where she really shone. Her warm personality and contagious laugh would immediately put everyone at ease. Gail was a natural caregiver and was always willing to lend a hand to anybody in need. Some of the best times of Gail’s life were spent in Cabo San Lucas with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. There were countless memories made, in the 10 years of vacations to Cabo. Gail was immensely proud of her children and loved spending time with them. There were always treats to be found at grandma’s house, and often she could be found baking something delicious in the kitchen. Gail is survived by her husband of 30 years, Wayne Nykoluk of Red Deer. Raymond Aime Durand

September 26th, 1930 to August 25th, 2021 Raymond Aime Durand, left this Earth on August 25th 2021 in Okotoks AB. He was born on the farm in Notre Dame De Lourdes MB. He is survived by his wife Therese Durand and his children Alice (Daniel), Robert (Louise), Annette (Joseph), Marcel (Lori), Rene (Menerva) and Gilles (Marlene), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a kind loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was from a family of 6 children, Albert, Lucienne, Maurice, Clemence and Gabriel. As we travel back through his life, one thing stands out is his joy and deep love for family, hence family reunions like no other. The Durand’s would go to great lengths to gather yearly with camping, games and above all food. Ray had a quiet strength about him, his children and especially grand children could sit with him for hours listening to his life stories with a quirky sense of humor. (And if we caught on) we would all be left laughing. He loved to tease. Another great love of his was to travel, and that he did to several parts of the world. When he retired, they bought a place in Mesa Arizona and spent many winters there. He loved to golf and had a large group of golf buddies. Dancing was another past time that he and Therese enjoyed for many years. It is never easy to lose someone we love, yet we stumble bravely. Our heartbreak eased knowing he is flying free at last into the arms of our Lord Jesus. At peace at last. The journey of goodbyes will leave a deep mark on all of us. Rest in peace our sweet loving Father, Grandfather and Husband. “For God so loved the world that he gave his son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16A private service will be held in Okotoks, with burial in Notre Dame De Lourdes later. In lieu of flowers, you may consider donating to the Brenda Strafford Foundation, Tudor Manor. To email condolences please visit www.snodgrassfuneralhomes.com.
