Generally, new technology trickles down at WWC. The 4/5s get the new technology and the younger grades do not get as much. All the 4/5s have a projector/document reader in class and all the classes want one. So that should be a priority. The staff decided on this as the best starting point and it was reported that they agreed to hold off on more for the 4/5 classes at this time and to start with kinders and grades 1-3. Also, WWC, because its teachers teach their own curriculum and do not just follow a workbook, spends a huge amount on copying costs (although each copy itself is less than 1 cent, the toner and maintenance are very expensive). WISE allocates $16,000/year on copying costs; this year a family is generously underwriting those costs, so next year it could possibly be twice as much. Board and attendees discussed ways to encourage teachers to post homework on the website. Board and attendees also discussed that WISE may not be able to fund all of the teachers and administrators asks this year due to lower fundraising. Fundraising Update Staci Miller Staci reported that the E & E Drive was on track, mainly because WISE increased the ask this year. Corporate Sponsorship is up and the affiliate program has already raised $5,000. The Committee is still trying to figure out how to make Scrip and Ralph’s more successful this year. Nina Rosen and Kim Ozar may organize a jog-a-thon. Auction Update Susan Chae Susan reported that the committee feels like its going to be a successful party, but the committee would like to encourage more people to buy tickets. The entire team has been working very hard. Reorganization of WISE Committees Lisa Woods Lisa reported that WISE was going to look at re-organizing some of the committee structures, and she would like all WISE members to look at their committees and see what could be moved around to make better use of their time. [Angelike’s notes end; Eva Fogg’s notes begin] Nominating Committee Kerri Schwartz Kerri Schwartz recommended that WISE begin planning on nominating committee heads for next year.
