Gazebo installed at Sweden Town Park A gazebo dedicated to the memory of Willie Sweeting (1944-2018) was installed at the Sweden Town Park last week. The gazebo was sponsored by the Sweden Community Foundation and made possible through the generous donations of Mr. Sweeting’s family and friends. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the dedication ceremony will be held in the spring of 2021. The gazebo is located on the east side of the Town of Sweden Lodge and is surrounded by water on three sides. The Sweden Community Foundation, founded in 2005, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation that is committed to the expansion, promotion and funding of recreation opportunities for residents in the greater-Sweden community. The Foundation has contributed to Sweden Town Park projects such as Nietopski Field, soccer and football fields and lights, the lodge, accessible playground, and the splash pad. Brockport police report Between September 22 and 28, Brockport Police handled 355 calls for service (15,349 calls to date in 2020). Police were dispatched to one family trouble, two harassment/fight/assaults, completed 152 special attentions that include, but are not limited to, house checks, business checks, bike patrol, etc., and conducted 63 traffic stops. death notices Gerald W. Kage Gerald W. Kage (Jerry), 73, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on September 25, 2020, after a long illness. Gerald was born in Albion, NY, to Herman and Geraldine Kage on December 14, 1946. His early childhood was spent living at the Black North (formerly the Cottage Hotel) in Point Breeze, as his grandparents were owners/proprietors of the family business. The family moved to North Tonawanda, NY, for twelve years before a moving back to a farm in Lyndonville, NY. He attended LA Webber High School, donning number 42 on both his football and basketball jerseys and graduated in 1966. Athletics proved to be a life-long passion as he became a teacher of Physical Education after graduating from Quincy College in 1969. Gerald married Suzanne Kempf on August 15, 1970 in Evergreen Park, IL, and together they raised their two children, Jeffrey and Tracy in Holley, NY. His professional career took him to Holley Jr/Sr High School where he taught for thirty-two years, seventeen of which were spent coaching. In 1978, Gerald was named Section V Coach of the Year and officially put the Holley Varsity Boys’ Soccer team on the map. He achieved his 100th career win over LeRoy on September 10, 1982. Gerald was an active member of NYS Teacher’s Union and part of a negotiating team that brought about many changes for the Teachers of the district, which was one of his proudest achievements. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed golf, possessed amazing talents in the kitchen, and above all was passionate about car racing. He achieved his retirement goal of settling on a beautiful lake and spending quality time fishing and gardening. Gerald is preceded in death by his father, Herman Kage, mother, Geraldine (Hamman) Kage, and brother Harvey Kage. Gerald is survived by his wife of fifty years, Suzanne (Kempf) Kage, children, Jeffrey Kage (Cindy), Tracy Kage Johnson (Randy); siblings, Mary Kage Francis (Robert), John Kage (Ellie), Susan Kage Edmiston, Joseph Kage (Kim), Katherine Kage, and Peter Kage; grandchildren, Cameron Kage, Dylan Kage, Preston Kage, Owen Johnson; great grandson, Lochlan Kage; and his beloved dog Clark. The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff and management of NHC of Lexington, SC for all of their loving care and friendship during Jerry’s extended illness. A memorial service and interment will take place in Lynhaven Cemetery in Lyndonville, NY, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Holley Teachers’ Association Scholarship Fund, 3800 N. •Dobson, Thomas (Dobber), died September 23, 2020, at age 80. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Bonnie; children Jeffrey (Beth), Todd (Channon) and Shelley (Benjy); grandchildren Amanda (Mike), Rachael, Trevor (Olivia), Jeremy (Amanda), Adam, Amber and Tyler; nine great grandchildren; sisters Persha (Richard) Carlston and Dianne Hickerson (Douglas). Tom served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1964. He was a Communications Code Specialist, copying code from Russian ships, during the Cuban Conflict Crisis. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Bette”; children, Michelle (Dwayne) Wall, Cheryll (Mark) Fisher, Patricia (Donald) McCarver, Mark (Jennifer, predeceased) and David (Jennifer); grandchildren, Morgan (Colin), Kendra, Jarrod, Paige, Alexa, Nichole and Lauren; great-grandson, Aiden; brother, Earl (Sally) of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Jim was a Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 1830 and a member of St. Pius Tenth Church. His Funeral Mass was held October 2 at St. Pius Tenth Church, Chili. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Alciviades “Ike”; son, Steve; siblings, Christos Vasiou and Aneta Pogas. James L. Kurten SPENCERPORT - A wonderful and loving husband, uncle and friend, James L. Kurten passed September 22, 2020. Predeceased by his parents LeRoy and Elva Lee Ann Kurten, brothers, John Robbins and LeRoy (Skip) Kurten. Survived by his beloved wife of 35 years Donna, her mother Patricia Bolling (Dan Rowcliffe), Sisters, Janet Crosswaite and Dorothy Wilt (Dave), Sister-in-law Christine Bolling, Nieces, Patti Giglio, Carrie Hull, Pam Wolf, Jeanne Smith, Nephews, Steve, Eric and John Robbins, Eddie Bolling, Jeff Crosswaite, Mark and Doug Wilt, Michael Kurten, numerous great nieces and nephews and very dear friends. Jim was a proud Army Veteran and retired millwright from Delco Products. Jim loved adventure and had many passions throughout his life including drag racing, skydiving, Harleys and in later years touring the country with his wife Donna and dog Pickle in their RV, and weekend camping trips with his great niece and nephew Liesl and Karl Unvericht. Jim loved and cared deeply for those fortunate to be part of his life and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A Memorial Service was held September 29 at Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, Greece. Interment with military honors at Garland Cemetery, Clarkson.
