YoucantalktoanyofthestaffintheNurseryorReceptionatdrop-offinthe morningorwheneveryoupickyourchildup.Ifyouneedtotalkinmoredetailthen pleasesendusanemailorarrangeameeting.

FoodandDrink

Thechildrenareprovidedwithafreshlypreparedsnackplate twiceaday.Anexamplesnackmaybe:anapple,pepper,and cucumber,cheesecubes,andaricecake/breadstickor,fresh fruitsuchasstrawberriesormelonandacracker/ryebiscuit WeaskyoutosendyourchildtoNurserywithawaterbottle, whichtheywillthenhaveaccesstothroughouttheday.The childrenarealsoofferedmilk.

PleasenotethatweareaNUT-FREENurseryandSchool, withnoexceptions.Thisistoprotectchildrenwhohavesevere allergies.

EachdaythechildrenwalkovertothePrepSchooldini forlunch.Weusesilverwareandceramicplatesand childrenaresupportedtobeasindependentasposs

Thechildrenareencouragedtotrynewfoodsandwe theverybestofourabilitytoensurethattheyareeat leastoneofthefruitandvegetablesthatareincluded lunchmenuforthatday

Foodiscookedon-siteintheschoolkitchenandprovidesa balancedrangeofmealsthroughouttheweek.Inadditionto menuitems,thereareanumberofalternativesavailablesuch assoups,saladsorjacketpotatoesifrequired,andthereis alwaysfreshfruitavailable.

Allallergiesanddietaryrequirementsshouldbecommunicated uponjoiningthenurserytoenableustocaterforthemfully.If youwouldliketoprovideyourownfooditemsforsnackor lunchtimes,pleasearrangetomeetwithyourchild’skey workeranddiscussthisfurther.

Illness

TheNurseryteamisdedicatedtothesafety,care,health,andwelfareofyour child.Wewilltakemeasurestokeepthemashealthyaspossiblebypreventingthe spreadofvirusesandbacteriathroughcleaningandgoodhygienepractices

•Childrenwhoareunwellshouldnotbebroughttothenursery.Ourpriorityisto keepallchildrenandstaffsafeandwell.We,therefore,reservetherighttorefuse entryforanychilddeemedunwellandunabletoenjoytheirdaywithusat nursery.

•Parents/guardiansmustnotifystaffiftheirchildhasbeenunwellattheweekend orinthenight,andiftheyhavebeengivenanymedicinesuchasCalpol/Nurofen priortocomingtonursery.IfCalpol/Nurofenhasbeengiven,wemayaskyouto keepyourchildathomefor24hoursbeforereturningtothesetting.

•AnychildwhohashadvomitingandordiarrheamustnotreturntotheNursery untilatleast48hourshaveelapsedfromthelastboutofvomitingandordiarrhea andtheyareeatinganddrinkingnormally.

-Ifyourchildistakingprescribedmedicationweareabletoadministerthiswith priorconsent.

Inthenursery,weoperateaone-waydrop-offandcollectionsystem,whereby parentswalkaroundtheperimeterofthebuildingtotheirchild’sclassroomThis systemisinplacetokeepallchildrenandfamiliesawayfrommovingtrafficon theturningcircle.Nochildisreleaseduntilaparentorlistedcareristhereto collectthem.Inanyinstancewhereapersonsenttocollectbythefamilyisnot listed,apasswordsystemisused.

WhentheweatherturnscoolerandwetterwecontinuetoventureoutWekindly askthatyouprovideyourchildwith:

Pleasesendyourchildinwithanamedwaterbottleeachdaythattheyattend.It willbefilledupthroughoutthedaywithfreshwater.

TuckShop

EachFridaythechildrenhavetheopportunitytochooseandpurchasetheirown snackfromtheNurserytuckshop!Wecalculatethecostforeachchildatthe beginningofthetermandaskthatyoubringthecorrectmoneyintothenurseryin anamedenvelope.Themoneymadeisusedtoreplenishthesnacksandthe childrenabsolutelylovetocountthemoneytheybringandexchangeitfortheir chosentreat.Alldietaryrequirementsarecateredfor.

Holidays

Weregretthatweareunabletoreimburseorcancelsessionsshouldyoubeaway fromthenurseryonholiday.Wedohowever,lovetohearallaboutyour adventures,sopleasefeelfreetouploadphotographsontoTapestryforyourchild tosharewithus.

SleepRoutines

IfyourchildisaLittleOwloraRobinandyouwouldlikethemto haveanapwhilsttheyarewithus,wehaveadedicatedsleep roomwithtwinklylightsandcalmingmusic.

Thechildrenaretakenfortheirnapafterlunchataround 12:45p.m.Ifyouwouldliketosendinasofttoyorfamiliar blanketforthemtosnugglewithwhilsttheysleepyouaremo thanwelcome.Amemberofstaffsettlesthechildrenandstay intheroomuntilallofthechildrenareasleep.Followingthis,t childrenarecheckedat5-minuteintervals,wealsohaveabab monitorintheroomfortheperiodsinbetweenTheroomis temperature-controlledandwell-ventilated,thesamesheets areusedthroughouttheweekforyourchildandthenwashed.

ThePeacocksclassdoesnothaveadedicatedsleepingareaor naptime,butrestistakenwithintheclassenvironmentifitis needed

ToiletingRoutines

Whetheryourchildisinnappies,toilettraining,orusingthet independentlywearehappyandwell-preparedtohelpthem Nappiesarecheckedregularlyandarechangedatregular intervalsorwheneverrequiredWecanapplycreamifthe childrenneeditandweaskforyoutoprovidethis.

Whentoilettraining,weaimtomirroryourroutineathomeas muchaspossible.Pleasespeaktoyourchild’skeyworkerto discusshowwecanbestsupportyourchildwhilsttheyarewith usatnursery.Weaskthechildrenregularlywhethertheyneed tousethebathroomandhavedesignatedbreakswhenweask allofthechildrentousethetoilet.Therearenodedicatednappy changingfacilitiesinthePeacocksbathroom,thereforetoilet trainingisstronglyrecommended

Althoughweareunabletogiveoutafulllistoffirstandlast names/contactdetailsfortheotherchildreninyourchild’sclass, weareabletocompleteandhandoutpartyinvitationsforyou whenyoubringthemtothenursery.Wemayalsogiveyoualist offirstnamesifyouwouldliketowritethemathomeyourself. Youarewelcometobringinashopboughtcaketosharewith theotherchildre,butpleaseensureitisnutfree.

SESSIONINFORMATION

Sessions:

WestonbirtNurserywelcomeschildrenfromtheageof2years,andthereare optionstoattendtermtimeonlyorallyearround.Additionally,forthose attendingtermtime,thereisaflexibleoptiontoattendsessionsduringthe holidaysAd-hocsessionscanbebookedviaMrsFriend,however,last-minute requestsmaynotbegrantedifadditionalstaffinghasnotbeenarranged.So,be suretoletusknowinplentyoftime.

Thesessionsavailableeachdayare:

•Morningsession:08.00-13.00(includeslunch)

•Afternoonsession:13.00-15:30

•After-schoolsessions:15.30-17.00(includestea),17.00-18.00or15:30-18:00. Pleasenotethatpersistentlatecollectionswillresultinacharge.

Transitions:

WestonbirtNurseryhasrecentlyintroduceddesignatedtransitiondatesfornew childrenandfamiliesandforthoseprogressingfromtheLittleOwlstoRobins room.Thisdecisionhasbeenmadeinordertoprovideamoremeaningful‘settling in’processforthechildren,aimingtobetterpreparethemwhentheytransition Thedates,thisyear,willbe:

-September6th,January9th,andApril16th.

Ifyourchild’sbirthdayfallsinbetweentwoofthesedates,theywillremainintheir currentclassuntilthenexttransitionperiodIntheRobinsroomour'RisingThrees' havetheopportunitytotransitionthetermbeforetheirbirthday.Theweeks leadinguptothisdatewillprovidetheopportunityfortransitionvisitswhere childrenwilljointheirnewclassmatesforactivitiessuchascircletimes,adult-led activities,forestschool,andmealtimesThestaffwillliaisebetweentheroomsto shareimportantinformationandwillalsoarrangetospeakwithyoutoanswer anyquestionsthatyoumayhave.

Wherechildrenhaveadisabilitythatrequiresadditionalsupportforthemto physicallyordevelopmentallyaccesslearning,allappropriateeffortswillbemade toprovidethesamequalityoflearningforthechildasanyotherDuringthe admissionsprocessorfollowinganydiagnosis,thechild'skeyperson,EYFS coordinator,SENDCo,andHeadmaster(plusamemberoftheHealthandWellbeingcenter,whereappropriate)willmeetthechild’sfamilytodiscussand implementwherepossible,suitablearrangementsChildrenwillnotbe discriminatedagainstinanycase.

Inordertokeepyourchildandtheotherchildrenintheschoolsafewedonot permittheuseofmobiletelephoneswithinthebuilding,unlessitisanemergency. IfyourchildattendsthePeacockclassonaTUESDAYorFRIDAYafternoon: -Pleasesendyourchildwiththeirswimmingcostumeandatowel.Inthe coldermonths,werecommendthatyoualsoprovideawetsuit-style costumetoprovideanextralayerofwarmth.TheLeisureCentreisheated butwefindthatthishelpstokeepthechildrenmoreprotectedfromany draughtsduetotheventilationofthepool.

Becauselifeinthenurseryisactiveandever-evolvingcomfortiskey. Nurserychildrenwearnavyjoggingbottomsorleggings, navypoloshirtsandsweaters.Trainersshouldbewhiteand welliesnavy.Pleaseensurethateveryitemisclearlynamed.

InthewarmermonthsWestonbirtsunhats,navyshorts,skirtsorgreendressesare worn.

Onthe6thofSeptember,thedaybeforetheSummerTerm begins,thechildrenjoinusforanhourtobecmorereaccuainted withtheirroom,seetheirpegandaskanyquestionstheyhave.

WhatistheEarlyYearsFoundationStageCurriculum?

TheEarlyYearsFoundationStage(EYFS)ishowthegovernmentandEarlyYears professionalsdescribethetimeinyourchild’slifebetweenbirthandagefive. InthecontextofWestonbirtPrepSchool,thisreferstothetimespentinourthree NurseryclassesandtheirReceptionyear.

Thesearetheformativeyearsofyourchild’seducationandservetopreparethem academicallyandsociallyforthetransitionintotheyearsbeyond.

DuringtheEYFSyears,webelievethatallchildrenshouldbehappy,engaged, challenged,andfeelsafeandsecure.Theirdevelopmentshouldbesupportedby identifyingandadaptingtotheirlearningneedsandprovidingstimulating opportunitiesforthemtoprogressinarangeofareas.

Aswithallearlyyearssettings,wefollowthestatutoryframeworkforEarlyYears FoundationStage‘DevelopmentMatters’andthenon-statutoryframework,

Whatdoesitmeanformeasaparent?

Theseframeworkssetouttherequirementswithregardsto safetyandsafeguardingincludingsuchthingsasstaffratios andadministeringmedicinesItalsoidentifiesanddescribesin detailhowyourchildwillbelearning. Onthefollowingpagewegointothekeyprinciplesinalittle moredetail.

Dailyactivitiesareplannedtoempowerthechildrentolearn anddevelopnewskillsTheseskillsareembeddedinavariety ofdifferentways,bothplaybasedandthrough'handson' exploratoryactivities,whilstothersaretaughtdirectlyina one-to-oneorsmallgroupsetting.

Considerationisgiventotheneedsofeachchildandactivities aredifferentiatedwhereappropriate.Thisensuresthateach childlearnsandprogressesattheiroptimumpacethrough tailoredteachingandsupport,andmeansthatyoubeassured thatyourchildissafeandstimulatedwhilsttheyarewithus.

ChildrenwithSENDaregiventhesameopportunitiestolearnanddevelopastheir peers.Ifyouorourstaffteamidentifyapotentialneed,wewillbeginameaningful dialoguebetweentheschoolandthefamily.WeareguidedbyourSEND Coordinator,whocanmakeformalandinformalassessmentswherenecessaryand identifyanysupportneededandhowitcanbeimplementedSupportcanbeinthe formofone-to-oneindividualintervention,groupactivitiesorin-classstrategies anddifferentiation.Wewillcreateanindividualeducationplanwhichwillbe reviewedandevaluatedonaregularbasis.Whereexternalagenciesarerequiredto assessorsupportyourchild,theschoolwillworkwithallinvolvedtoensurethat thebestpossibleprovisionisonoffer.IfyouwishtoreadmoreaboutourSEND policy,pleasecontacttheEYFSstaffortheschoolofficeforfurtherinformation.

Academicassessmentofyourchild’sprogresswillbebasedontheprimeareasand willbebrokendownintoage-appropriatedevelopmentpoints.Theseare communicatedviaouronlineassessmentapp,Tapestry(ongoingthroughouttime inEYFS),andwrittenreports(bi-annually)

AttheendoftheReceptionyear,youwillreceiveaprofiledetailingyourchild’s exactprogressagainsttheEarlyLearningGoals.Theprofileprovidesyouwitha well-roundedpictureofyourchild’sknowledge,understanding,andabilities,their progressagainstexpectedlevels,andtheirreadinessforYearOne.Theprofile reflectsongoingobservations,interventionsthathavebeendelievered,and dialoguebetweenparentsandcarersandanyotheradultswhoteachorsupport yourchild
