The Deserted Caravan

I’m finally telling the one story that messed up my life. I used to love travelling but now I don’t. Something followed me back from that trip and it hasn’t left me alone.

I was travelling through some woods on a deserted island and I came across a little clearing. At first I didn’t see him, I only saw a little rusty caravan. It was an eerie sight, the dark shadows of the woods looming over the little vehicle and a big padlock on the front of the door. I thought it must have been a previous traveller’s, and I decided to stay the night near the caravan. As I set up camp, it started to get dark, so I lit a little fire. I think that’s what awoke him, because since that night, he hasn’t left me alone.

As I wanted some sleep, I went into my tent, but little did I know, going to sleep was one of the worst things to do. I think the reason he followed me was because he was hungry. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt the urge to go outside but I decided to stay in the tent. I needed to stay inside or he would get me. The next morning, I woke up and I wanted to leave but I couldn’t. I tried to walk away but I couldn’t. I called on my emergency radio, but I couldn’t. I was trapped.

I decided to look at the caravan. The lock was rusty and fell off when I gave it a tug, then, I walked inside. Inside the caravan was mouldy and dusty. The ceiling was green and the floor had grass growing through. But the bed, the bed was made and clean. I looked around and, in the bathroom, I found bones. Not one or two but hundreds. At first, I thought it must have been animal bones but then I saw a skull. When I realised where all of the travellers that had gone missing were, I screamed, slammed the door and ran. But after a while of running, I realised I was just going round and round the woods. I was starting to think that there was no way out. I heard a twig snap behind me but all I could see were shadows. It felt like I was in a bad dream.
