West Kerry Care of the Aged is a local charitable organisation involved in providing a range of services in the West Kerry area. We offer daily meals and a range of activities in our Day Care centre, Gairdin Mhuire on Green Street, with transport to the centre from a different locality each day. We offer laundry services to our clients as well as a number of accommodation options. Also as part of our organisation we own a charity shop on Goat Street. Along with HSE funding, all the proceeds from the sale of the goods donated to the charity shop goes directly to helping us fund the services we provide. The shop accepts clean saleable items such as clothing and bed linen. We also accept CD’s, DVD’s jewellery and household items. For Health and Safety reasons we cannot accept electrical goods, toys, baby equipment and furniture.
We Accept
While we are grateful for the all the wonderful donations to the charity shop we are having a few ongoing issues with donations. Firstly, bags are being left on the shop doorstep outside of business hours. This is unacceptable as the bags block the footpath and can at times be left for the weekend in all weathers.
Clean Clothing Shoes & Bags
Secondly, items are donated that we cannot sell such as soiled and damaged clothing, electrical goods and toys. While we can recycle clothing, other items have to be disposed of at a cost to the charity.
Clean Bedding
The opening hours of the shop are from 9.30am to 4.30pm (closed for lunch) Monday through Friday. The shop is run with the help the Community Employment scheme and the West Kerry Care of the Aged committee members. The charity shop attracts all kinds of customers, from those in search of a bargain to tourists from all over the world! If you have never visited us pop in for a look around, you never know what you might find. Remember all the proceeds go directly to providing services in West Kerry. We would like to thank all our customers and those that donate for their generosity.
