Executive Summary

CLASS OF 2011 POST GRADUATE SURVEY

The Career Center at Westfield State University provides statistical reports to measure effectiveness and evaluate performance. Our purpose in connecting with graduates is to capture first destination, post-graduate information and compile it into a report with meaningful data that prospective students, parents, employers, the administration and the community can utilize. The goal of this survey was to analyze a representative sample of the Class of 2011 to determine the post-graduation career and graduate school activities of individuals one year after graduation. We were very pleased with a 49% percent overall response rate, achieved through a number of marketing initiatives and the Career Center’s tracking efforts. Equally impressive in this economy is the finding that approximately 96% percent of those surveyed are either employed or attending graduate school. Also, 19 % percent of this group was engaged in public sector or non-profit employment, reflecting Westfield State University’s mission of assisting students to develop intellectually and to use their knowledge and skills to improve the social and economic conditions in their communities. It is exciting to see the wide range of professional activities of these new graduates. Members of the University community have worked diligently to guide and support these individuals during their undergraduate years. It is satisfying to see the outcome of these efforts as students launch their professional careers or pursue advanced study in a wide range of fields and industries. We are pleased to present our 2011 Post-Graduate Survey. Using a systematic and comprehensive approach to gathering this type of data, we can examine our progress with students over time and guide future efforts on behalf of students and alumni. This project, compiled and managed by the Career Center, was truly a collaborative campus-wide effort, working closely with colleagues from Marketing and Information Technology. We hope that you find this report to be informative and beneficial.

Sincerely, Junior Delgado Director, Career Center
