sculpture and printing, as well as painting and sketching. This foundation of techniques provides a firm grounding to allow the pupils to explore and expand their creativity in final interdependent projects. Modern Foreign Language French is taught from Year 3-6 in accordance with the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages. This provides opportunities to develop oracy and literacy skills in the foreign language, and promotes understanding of and respect for cultural diversity. Pupils are taught French in blocks throughout the year and receive additional French input embedded throughout the rest of the curriculum, where appropriate. At Westfields, we believe that all opportunities for pupils to hear spoken French should be fostered and actively promote this aim through a range of multi-media facilities, including video conferencing, as well as a residential visit to France. Music We aim to develop pupils’ understanding and enjoyment of music through activities which provide them with opportunities to perform, compose and experience a range of musical styles. Our musical productions are well known locally and we are justifiably proud of our reputation. We have a highly qualified teacher supporting the teaching of music throughout the school. We arrange for a number of music specialists to work with children on a variety of instruments. During Year 5, all children benefit from the Hampshire ‘Listen 2 Me’ project; learning a number of instruments within their music lessons. Physical Education Children are encouraged to develop their practical skills in gymnastics, games, dance, athletics and outdoor and adventurous pursuits. We have excellent facilities for physical education which include large school fields, a netball court, two playgrounds and a large, well equipped hall with new gymnastics equipment. Year 6 pupils are offered the opportunity of attending a residential outdoor pursuits centre in the autumn term. Year 5 pupils have instruction at Yateley School’s deep water swimming pool.
