Meet Our Sport Management Faculty

The Master of Science in Sport Leadership and Coaching is a gamechanging program with an innovative cross-disciplinary curriculum spanning sport management and leadership. It is the ideal advanced degree for students seeking to enter athletic administration (educationally-based sport organizations), athletic coaching, or managerial positions within any sport organization. Best of all, our program has been specifically designed to accommodate working professionals, including those with coaching schedules.

The Sport Management faculty offers a diversity of expertise and experiences in the sport industry. All of the faculty are engaged in research and are published. Their insights and extensive connections make them an invaluable part of our highly distinctive program. Program Codirector Dr. Sharianne Walker brings years of experience in resource development, executive leadership, and strategic planning for both for-profit and non-profit sport organizations. Three faculty members hold law degrees and have worked in business, as a sports agent, and for the U.S. Olympic Committee. Another is an expert in collegiate sports. Our highly personalized approach will set the stage for you to work closely with our team of full-time faculty. The following is a list of professors you will work with.

Our Faculty is in a League of Its Own As experts in team building, we’ve assembled a faculty dream team composed of leadership and sport management experts. You could even say program Codirector Dr. Robert Klein wrote the book on it— Leadership Transformation: The Klein Group Instrument, his latest book based on the research of the Klein Group Instrument. Such leadership expertise is complemented by the diverse expertise and industry connections of the faculty of the Department of Sport Management. With a focus on the business of sport, these professors bring insight and expertise in sport law, facilities management, international sports, intercollegiate sports, and sport agency to the groundbreaking Master of Science in Sport Leadership program.

Robert R. Klein

Program Codirector Ed.D., M.Ed., Harvard University M.A., Yale University B.A., Colgate University Dr. Klein completed his doctoral work at Harvard University, where he studied human development, psychology, and the teaching and learning process related to the instruction of group skills. In collaboration with the Center for Applications of Psychological Type, he developed the Klein Group Instrument® for Effective Leadership and Participation in Teams (KGI®), published in 2007. He is a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator™ (MBTI™) Master Practitioner. In addition to teaching for over two decades at Western New England University, he has taught leadership and group skills at Harvard, Wheaton College, and Springfield College. He has been a faculty member at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. His new book, Leadership Transformation: The Klein Group Instrument, will be a centerpiece of the curriculum in the Sport Leadership and Coaching program.
