Buck named Blues AFL coach Championship coaches

HAMPDEN Football Netball League has announced its netball coaches for the 2023 Western Region championships. The league will once again send three representative teams to the championships, to be played at the Warrnambool City Netball Association on Sunday June 4.

The coaches are as follows:

17 and under – Jacqui Bowman and Leah Sinnott.

15 and under – Stacey O’Sullivan and Marie Wall.

13 and under – Jaime Barr and Kym Grundy.

FORMER Koroit assistant coach Mathew Buck will lead AFLW club Carlton in season 2023.

Buck was appointed Carlton Football Club’s senior coach of its AFLW side earlier this week.

His former Hampden League club congratulated Buck on his appointment stating on social media “those who know and have worked closely with Bucky over the yeas know how much he’s put in to developing his coaching skills and networks in pursuit of a role like this….we can’t think of anyone more ready for this job than him.”

In a statement released earlier this week, Carlton Football Club said it was “delighted” to announced Buck was taking the reins of the Blues’ AFLW program after building a strong resume across several levels of the game, in a coaching career spanning almost a decade to date.

Buck is no stranger to IKON Park, having been part of the club since 2021 as VFL senior assistant with the Carlton Reserves, alongside Luke Power.

Buck has also impressed in his work with the current AFLW playing group, recently stepping up to conduct optional, skills-development sessions with the players since early February.

This club-first mentality is a standout train for Buck, one which will no doubt endear him the Navy Blue faithful. With a professional background in education, Buck shares a passion for development and maximising the talents of young people.

The Blues’ currently has 14 of the side’s 26 players aged 23 years or under.
