DETAILED SALEYARD REPORT by MLA’s

YARDING 582 CHANGE 677 less

A dramatic decrease in numbers to 580 head yarded at Mortlake this week from the previous weeks high being some 680 head less mainly due the start of some short weeks. It was a mixed offering and was plainer than the previous weeks market. There were considerably more Dairy stock on offer throughout most categories. Not all processors operated but there was increased restocker interest. 275 trade, 280 cows and 30 grown cattle made up the offering. Despite lower volumes & quality the market remained fully firm and and in places was 5 to 10c/kg dearer for the trade cattle and more so for the well covered trade heifers. Manufacturing steers were firm. The heavy cows and well covered dairy cows were 20c/ kg stronger. The pick of the veal made from 420c to 440c/ kg whilst yearling steers and heifers made from 340c to 430c/kg. Grown steers and heifers topped at 368c and manufacturing steers topped at 330c/kg. Good heavy beef cows sold from 280c to 326c/kg, medium weight’s 225c to 245c whilst covered dairy cows sold from250c to 275c/kg. Beef bulls sold to 250c/ kg.

YARDING 294 CHANGE 106 less Camperdown agents yarded a smaller offering of 294 cattle. Quality mostly varied from plain to average although there were a few well presented beef and dairy cows. The usual buying group attended and operated. Prices for the few pens of heavy beef cows sold 10c to 20c dearer, heavy dairy cows were from firm to 10c dearer while the medium to light dairy cows sold unchanged. Bulls sold firm to a few cents stronger and the mixed selection of the better trade cattle also improved. The few yearling heifers sold to 360c, grown beef bred heifers made 260c to 300c and dairy heifers sold from 220c to 256c/kg. Grown steers made to 330c and dairy manufacturing steers 250c/kg.

The medium to heavy beef cows sold from 260c to 305c, well covered dairy cows were from 260c to 290c and leaner cows made 210c to 248c/kg. Light cows sold from 80c to 224c/ kg. Good quality beef bulls made 230c to 275c and best of the dairy bulls were from 225c to 255c/kg.
