Maiden Newton fire station has found three potential new on-call firefighters following a recent recruitment event. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service launched a new recruitment drive earlier this year, with a key aim of recruiting more on-call firefighters for each station. Neil Tidball, on-call recruitment manager at Maiden Newton Fire Station, said that so far the scheme has been a success in helping to reach out to the community for help. Neil said: “During the recent three-week recruitment cycle at Maiden Newton the team worked with the local station team, social media, local, regional, and national employers, and key individuals from the community to help raise the awareness of the need for more on-call firefighters at Maiden Newton fire station.” nContact 01722 691444 or recruitment@ dwfire.org.uk

Council launches move for more foster parents

Dorset Council is calling for help to overcome the need to foster children outside of the county. Cllr Andrew Parry, briefholder for children, education, skills and early help, is urging anyone with an interest in foster care to contact the authority. His call comes after it was revealed at a Dorset Council meeting last month that the authority recruited only 19 new foster carers in 2021, despite more than 230 applications. Cllr Parry said: “We’ve been very lucky in Dorset that we’ve had great loyalty from our foster carers over many years.” Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer in Dorset should look up the ‘foster in Dorset’ Facebook page and visit fosterwith dorsetcouncil.com Dorset Council is also hosting public events for anyone interested in becoming a foster carer on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 at Gillingham and Shaftsbury Country Spring Show. There are also events on the morning of Thursday, April 28 at Shaftesbury Library, on Thursday, May 5 at Weymouth Library and on Tuesday, May 31 at Kingston Lacy House.
