Mr. Gino Quilico’s career spans more than forty years, following a remarkable course through the most prestigious opera houses in the world: The Metropolitan Opera (New York), la Scala (Milan), The Royal Opera House (London), The Paris Opera, The Vienna Staatsoper, to name a few. It goes without saying that Mr. Quilico sang under the direction of the greatest conductors of the symphonic world: Herbert Von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa and of course Kent Nagano and Yannick Nézet-Séguin Among all his accomplishments, one must not forget in 1991 his participation in the world premiere of the Opera The Ghosts of Versailles, created to mark the centennial celebrations of the Metropolitan Opera. In 1987, for the first time in the history of the Metropolitan Opera, a father (Louis) and his son (Gino) were singing in the same production of Manon by Massenet. Mr. Quilico has participated in more than thirty opera recordings. In 1995, he received a Grammy Award for his participation in Les Troyen de Berlioz with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, a Gold record for his recording Noel. Gino Quilico has also performed with great success musicals including Notre-Dame de Paris by Plamondon-Cocciante where he played the role of "Quasimodo" and the role of "Jean Valjean" in Les Misérables for Québec’s 400 anniversary. His life work has not been exclusively dedicated to opera and music. In 1990, he is one of the rare Canadians to be dubbed a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR). Gino Quilico has always taken the promotion of opera to heart while being a worthy representative of Canadian culture. This commitment has been noted when he was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Canada in 1993, thereby acknowledging his talent. By the same token, the Canada Music Council named him “Artist of the Year” in 1993 to recognize his exceptional contribution to classical music in Canada.
