this issue Staff Spotlight… The idea behind this section is to help you, our patrons, learn a little bit more about the friendly faces at the West Allis Public Library.

Meet Alyssa… Alyssa is the library intern at the West Allis Public Library. She is in grad school working on her Master’s in Library and Information Science. Brief bio… Alyssa is from a small town in Northwestern Wisconsin and moved to Milwaukee for school. She has two sisters, a brother, and two adorable nephews. Library Duties… As an intern Alyssa completes many tasks for the librarians on staff. She has assisted at the reference desk, with programs, displays, in the circulation room, and she creates the online enewsletter as well as assists with this paper version. Hobbies… Alyssa enjoys reading, Netflix, and spending time with friends and family. Favorite Books… The Host by Stephanie Meyer Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier Harry Potter Series by J.K. The Friends of the West Allis Public Library The Library that you’ve come to appreciate wouldn’t be the same without the generous volunteer work of the Friends of the West Allis Public Library. The advocacy and effort of the Friends guarantee adequate support for the many wonderful programs offered at the Library.

Thursdays, 6:30 - 8:00pm | Library Constitution Room. We provide the coloring pages and materials, you provide the creativity. No registration required. January 11th February 8th March 8th

To continue their efforts, the Friends are always looking for new members.

Tax season is upon us. Forms have been ordered, but just a reminder that our tax form supply will once again be quite limited this year. Like last year, we will receive limited quantities of the Federal 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms. There will also be a very limited number of instruction booklets available. Basic Wisconsin forms and booklets will also be available. If there are additional forms you would like printed, please see the librarians at the Information Desk. Please be aware that any forms we print for you are ten cents per page.

The West Allis Public Library Leisure Learners Programs are for adults who enjoy viewing films and slideshows relating to travel, history, and other subjects of general interest. Programs are held the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Constitution Room of the West Allis Public Library. Presentations begin at 10am and last approximately one hour.

New evidence suggests that the machines in his sketch books may not have been invention but copies from centuries before his time. For well over a century, Milwaukee shoppers have had Gimbels or Schuster’s on the brain. Enjoy this loving trip through the history of these beloved stores, from their arrival in Milwaukee in the 1880’s through the 1962 merger and beyond. Presented by Paul Geenen. March 12, 2018: Milwaukee’s Women in History The accomplishments of Milwaukee’s women are frequently untold in history books. Well, not any longer! Come and join historical educator, Anita Pietrykowski, as she talks about the lives of some of the remarkable women from Milwaukee’s past who are buried at Forest Home Cemetery. March 26, 2018: Milwaukee Mayhem: Murder and Mystery in the Cream City’s First Century Wish you knew more about Milwaukee’s history than the official textbooks? Join Matthew Prigge as he explores the less typical stories about Milwaukee’s past; the vices, tensions and untold stories.
