One of the most memorable trips was surprising my Mom with a trip to Chicago to be on the Oprah Winfrey Show. It turned out to be one of Oprah’s last holidays “Favorite Things” tapings so we were incredibly lucky. It became a trip of a lifetime and a memory we will never forget!

Which living person do you most admire?
By far, the living people I admire the most are my children, Ana and Juan. They had to move out of their home country, leaving their passions and friends behind, just because their parents decided for them. Even in difficult situations, they have shown much more than resilience. They have taken on the journey with joy, curiosity, and immigrant drive.

What’s one song you have memorized completely?
The Major-General’s song from ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. I worked for one summer in a nanofabrication lab where you couldn’t bring in most outside materials. To pass the time while I waited for my experiments to run, I browsed the library of an old, offline computer, which for some reason had this song on it. I’ve never seen the opera!
