Famous for its towering limestone peaks which loom over the lush greenery of China’s farmlands, the river meanders around the verdant fields of grazing buffalo and past the picturesque fishing villages which nestle between Guilin and Yangshuo. This is the kind of scenery that is best admired on a smaller scale than that of the Yangtze. Boats on the Li River hold just 100 passengers and have an open viewing area on the upper deck – ideal for soaking up the ambience of China’s tranquil rural pastures.
