Wendover Choral new concert announced

Rebecca Kinnarney writes “Wendover Choral Society is so looking forward to our concert on Saturday 2nd December in St. Mary’s Church, Wendover. This season’s December event will feature two pieces by GF Handel - The Te Deum and Jubilate, written to celebrate the Treaty of the Peace of Utrecht which ended the War of the Spanish Succession in 1713.

“This is jubilant music, with some inspiring orchestral writing as well as tuneful vocal melodies, just right for Christmas. The choir will also be singing works by Felix Mendelssohn – Incidental Music from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Christus, an unfinished oratorio published after the composer’s death, a charming piece recounting the life of Christ.

“For this concert the choir will be joined by The Oxford Sinfonia and an incredible 6 soloists from The Royal College of Music.

“Join Wendover Choral Society and begin your Christmas festivities with a celebration and a reminder of the importance of peace.” Tickets available from Just, High Street Wendover, and at wendoverchoral@gmail.com

Santa Sleigh

Rotary in Wendover and District is now fully focused on the Eco-Santa Sleigh runs, visiting as many roads as possible in Wendover and Weston Turville. Cheryl Law writes, “We have found that young and old alike enjoy seeing the eco-vehicle used by Santa as well as relishing the personal visit. The more volunteers to help us, the more roads we can cover. We are very grateful to the volunteers who turned out last year to help. Please feel free to volunteer this year!”

Contact cheryl@monkeypuzzlehighwycombe.co.uk or pop in to see Ana in J Brown Funeral Services Ltd 23 High St, Wendover, Aylesbury HP22 6DU.

The itinerary will be published in the December print edition of Wendover News. This year Rotary in Wendover & District is supporting Wendover Dementia Support, Chiltern Foodbank and other Rotary supported charities.

HS2 at Ellesborough Road

During October the underground utility works required a closure of Ellesborough Road for three weeks to allow installation of ducts enabling BT and UK Power Networks cables to be rerouted. The utility companies are not under HS2’s direct control, and it will take some more time before all the services are moved. Currently the contractor EKFB is suggesting that the new road may now “open in the spring”.

Have your say about HS2‘s impact on Wendover’s future at the Parish Council’s public meeting being held in the Memorial Hall on Friday 24th November at 7pm.

Wendover News Welcomes authors

Wendover News is delighted to welcome two new volunteers to the core team and several new deliverers. Lorna Archer is a keen writer who joins us to produce and edit content, in particular relating to the Ellesborough area and ‘Health and Wellbeing’. Stephen Ellis-Jones is an experienced fiction writer and is currently working on a new historical novel. He will be assisting both as a writer/editor and in the management of the new company.

Social meet-ups for delivery volunteers

Wendover News just wouldn’t work without our delivery volunteers! Some people join for the exercise for an hour or so once a month, some for the social contact and some just because it makes them feel good to help out with a community resource!

We would like to introduce some of you to each other, and get to know you better socially. We’re starting monthly social meet-ups at various times and venues, in and around Wendover. Initially, we don’t know what will suit people best, so meet-ups will take place on different days of the week alternating between morning, afternoon or early evening. The first meeting will be in the Red Lion meeting room at 10am, on a date to be decided. Volunteers will receive a personal invitation with the next batch of freshly printed Wendover News. We’re looking forward to meeting you properly, once again!

Who do you know who might enjoy joining the delivery team? We are urgently looking for street deliverers for several areas. We also need to recruit a small team of ‘standby’ deliverers, co-ordinators and distributors who can flexibly cover holidays, illnesses and other emergencies among the regular delivery team.
